If it's attraction, it must be a physical attraction because he has nothing to base on personality, so does this mean he only wants a girl if she is visually pleasing because he only cares about having good sex, or is it all just innocent and he likes you based on instinct?

Well Personally I'd be a little worried if he just starred, but yes if he is looking something in his noggin is ticking and the focus is you. Perhaps he is curious, about your personality and watches for you to reveal some of it.
