13 year old daughter began complaining of stomach cramps around 5/6 days ago. abdominal pain gradually got worse during week, on thurs/friday morning the pain got very painful and kept her awake all night. she struggled to walk, couldnt sit down by the morning , felt nauseous. took her to the doctors (friday morning),he examined her and told me to take her to the hospital has he suspected appendicitus, . At the hospital the doctor examined her, a blood/urine test was done which were normal. The doctor didnt really know what it could be but said that it didnt look like appendictus and sent her home. My daughter was ok on saturday just minor pain and today she has been ok. However, in the past 2/3hours my daughter complained of pain in her abodomen and has got bad diaherea to the point her bum is sore. She says she feels nauseous but has no pain only when using toilet. Should i take her back to the hospital? could it be her appendix?

I think if it were truly appendicitis, the pain would not have stopped - for ANY amount of time. I would still take her to the hospital, though. Is there a chance she could have contracted food poisoning?

Firstly, I don't think you need to go rushing back to the hospital. At the minute it sounds as though she has a simple viral gastroenteritis. Her "bum" will be sore, because diarrhoea irritates the anus. Try some sudocrem or something similar on it.

If she doesn't have any pain, then it's not appendicitis. And the fact that the pain resolved over Saturday and Sunday suggests it's not appendicitis - left alone appendicitis does not get better, it only gets worse.

For now, you don't need to go rushing to hospital. Treat her symptomatically - if she has any pain, give her paracetamol (acetaminophen/tylenol) or ibuprofen (motrin). Make sure she is drinking enough to prevent dehydration, ideally give her something like dioralyte to drink, which will replace not only the water she is losing in the diarrhoea, but also the salt and sugar she is losing in it.

IF the diarrhoea continues for more than 3 days, then you should see a doctor, but it doesn't have to be in A&E/the ER, you can go back to your GP. If she has viral gastroenteritis (which sounds very likely) she may develop a fever - again, this is not a reason to rush her to hospital unless it does not come down with paracetamol/ibuprofen (tylenol/motrin).

I would take her to the ER even it isn't appendicites, something else is obviously wrong. Usually people don't get pain like that and then it goes away then comes back. I think it could either be the appendix or gallbladder. I had similar symptoms when I was 12-13 and it was my gallbladder -- it sounds weird in kids but they said more and more kids are having gallbladder infections and problems. Luckily my brother is a doctor so we knew pretty quickly. Have your daughter rate her pain (1-10 w/ 1 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain ever). Make sure you let the people in the ER what she said. Best bet --go get it checked out. Good Luck :)

dopes she have a fever over 100? you mentioned she had diharrhoea is she constipated? there are some things that you can do at home (YES TAKE HER STRAIGHT BACK TO HER DOCTORS ASAP) theres a spot alongside her navelto the right, touch it,if she gets pain on the rebound then its definatly her appendix! do not waste time, the appendix could burst and a serious infection will result.i hope she feels better soon.

Definately go back to A&E. It sounds like a problem with the bowel, but if it were me I'd want to know for sure. Also, if the diarrhoea is that bad, you must be careful of dehydration. Get her back there now. I hope she soon feels better.

inflammation of the appendix. Possibly ruled out because no elevated white count (indicating infection) when she was checked at the hospital..Take her back to the ER. Could still be appendicitis, just slow with white count elevation. Could be bowel obstruction. She needs to be checked again.

I would certainly take her back to the hospital, it is never a waste of time to get checked over again, it could be "grumbling appendix"

appendicites
1. fever
2. constipation (not what she has)
2. pain on lower RIGHT side of abdomen

could just be stomach flu. see how she is in the morning.

The pain will ease when the knees are brought up if its appendicitis. She might just be getting ready for her period or is eating something dodgy.
