mostly it can rain be hot and humid or chilly.
Its a wierd month. I would take a raincoat and umbrella just to be safe and jacket and sweater. NYC really does not start to cool off until about November.
(except for last week where it was like 60o for like 3 days and we all thought we were freezing to death. i wore boots but i actually saw someone in a winter jacket :).

It's usually cool, where you would need a light jacket...however, sometimes it's FREEZING and last October it was around 75 degrees...
There's really no way for us to tell you exactly.

Cool and brisk. If we're lucky, it might stay at 80 degrees for several days.
