This has worked in several other churches over the past 20-30 years. Why not ours? Women are smart enough to play a role in the priesthood.

Well, technically, women are endowed with the Priesthood after the order of the Son of God in the Endowment. They just don't receive an office within it.

Otherwise, they'd have to have the men do the washing and anointing for young women, now, wouldn't they?

The priesthood isn't like voting someone into office. It has nothing to do with inteligence. It is a HUGE responsibilty that the Lord has given to the men that are worthy. It is their role in life. If women had the priesthood, than that would mean that a woman could be a prophet. (which Jesus has never had, biblical times or recent) There would really not be a role for the men, their exsitance would not be necessary, except to maybe doante some sperm to have children. There would be no need for a man in the family. The priesthood provides special blessings to a family. If women could bless the family, run the family, have adn rear the children have a job- basically have it all- why even have men? It undermines the direct set up of the gospel plan. I personally AM NOT looking to ever have the resposibilty of the priesthood. I have too many other things to be taking care of.

No. Because I believe it's not the people of the Church that all the women to the priesthood, but God Himself. And unless God decides it's time for women to hold the priesthood, it will never happen.

Women have a divine calling to be mothers on this earth. The are endowed with the most powerful gift on the planet. Not having the priesthood is the least of my worries, if you could even classify it as one.

Also, women already do play a part in the priesthood and it has nothing to do with how smart we are. The priesthood is a calling, it is not bestowed upon those who don't want it, but it is a great responsibilty to those who hold it.

I am a mother, and frankly, that's enough responsibility for me.

Edit: JA, are you serious?? That piece of animation is a crock, please don't pass it off as truth. It came from Youtube for pete's sake!

Women do play a huge role in the priesthood. There is a reason that God wants bishops to be married, there is a reason that everyone who has ever been called as a general authority of the church, barring any unusual circumstances, has been married, that reason is the same reason that we believe that for a man to be truly saved (to use a term that non-Mormons will be familiar with) he must be married in the temple. Women do play a role in the priesthood of the church and have since the churches founding in 1830.

The "priesthood" is not a rank or calling. It is the power of God that has created the Earth and the Heavens. Being a holder of the priesthood give a worthy male the authority to act for God. This is something other churches don't have.

There is not difference in the "amount of priesthood" a Bishop has versus a regular priesthood holder. What separates the members are their callings. With the callings come certain blessings and responsibilities.

Other churches pay their pastors. Our bishops, stake presidents and those that hold other callings hold their own job. The Church does not pay clergy.

I has often been mentioned in a joking way that God gave men the priesthood so we would be equal to women who have the power of motherhood.

The Penguin's right.

And if you think about the priesthood as the power of God, or the authority to act in the name of God, then by being able to bear children, women are born with the priesthood.

Although there are recorded events in the Bible of prophetesses, none carried the priesthood after the Order of the Son of God--the Melchizedek Priesthood. Further, all other churches do not possess this holy priesthood, regardless their claims.

The priesthood, according to God's desires, is only bestowed on men. If the Lord decides otherwise, He will advise through the prophet and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Women are naturally more spiritual than men, just look at any religion's stats for the year and it will be proven. Personally, I wouldn't want it. I have honestly felt more close to God being pregnant twice than any Priesthood ability may give me. Women can also exercise their closeness to the priesthood power by using its influence. To be one with God and have a part of the creation process is such an amazing privilege and honour, I wouldn't swap it for anything else.

If you are a member like you would like for us to believe, you wouldn't have to ask that question.

Men MUST have the Priesthood in order to enter the highest degree of glory in the Celestial Kingdom. Women don't have to. We are daughters of our Heavenly Father and he loves us in that "special way" that all fathers love their daughters.

EDIT: Pono -- There have been female prophets. Ruth and Esther were both prophetesses. There were only females when there were no worthy males.

It's not the leaders, it's God, and God has said that they will never hold the priesthood. If the leaders all of a sudden decided to allow it, then it wouldn't be His church anymore. And they do play a role, they support their priesthood leaders.
