interpret the bible themselves? Or was the Catholic church right back then? (during the Protestant reformation, when even priests were not allowed to interpret the gospel, just Bishops.)

imo this is a good argument FOR the Catholic church, even though the bible eventually became available to everyone.

In your opinion, do you think some Christians interpret the bible without taking into account several theologically sound principals (such as the original language of the Bible and Judaic Law?)

And given this, should Theology be taught in schools so that we at least avoid useless argument and time-wasting confrontations? (At least, amoung Christian sects?)

If you believe people are not responsible enough to read and interpret the Bible; perhaps you believe people should let the government decide how they will run things, who gets elected and what laws should be made and enforced. The founding fathers gave people more credit than that and thought people were intelligent enough as a whole to make their own decisions. Just because fundies get the most media attention does not mean they are a majority and that their interpretations will become the norm.

I believe most Christians interpret the Bible usually to their limited understanding or something to their benefit. And no, theology should NOT be taught in schools. I think I'd have a problem with people telling my kid they'll have to believe in something or get burned, that they'll get tortured, and suffer for all eternity. Not to mention it sends the wrong message at a young age if they believe God does everything and discourages independent learning. If you want your child to learn like that please send them to Christian schools such as Catholic School or Christian Colleges...

Our Living GODMAN JESUS here tells us to personally worship God in Spirit and in Truth !

not to intellectually submit to some ungodly or unpiritual human diploma made "theologians" who are not even sure if God or Jesus or Spirit or Soul exists !

Only Spirit can Reveal Spirit to Spirit ! Thus, you must first be Spirit Born to Know our loving Spirit Father God of All Reality !

Rampant fundamentalism? Not yet ! The whole world, on average, is still far too much leftist SECULAR HUMANISTIC ! Wait a few years more and see how much farther to the Right (paleo-conservative, Spirit of Truth-filled Christians) the followers of Jesus do become ! Joy ! Joy ! or you may wail and gnash your teeth to stumps -- just your own GOD-given FREEWILL decision to be a too emotional liberal "basket-case" or an ever perfecting son of God in Jesus here ! Your frewill choice ! Choose God's Light and Life Eternal !

theology should be in private, not public schools(unless it's comparative religion)

the bible wasn't available to everyone because it was hard to make copies, and most people were illiterate.

yes, i do think some Christians read it as face value without taking anything else in account. that doesn't mean people shouldn't read the bible, it means they should understand what's going on(famous ex. "spare the rod spoil the child", rod really means "rule" not "beating stick", so it really means "spare the rules, spoil the child")

L.C.- half of the Catholic mass is based on the bible(reading), the other half is based on the bible by being quoted.(take this all of you and eat it, this is my body...)

Theology should not be taught in schools because it is not a real subject.

The best thing is for people to rid themselves of the idea that we need to treat religion with the exaggerated respect it has become accustomed to, and realise it is a subject that should be just as closely questioned as any other subject.

People should be allowed to interpret the bible any way they choose. They should not, howver, be allowed to tell other people how to live their lives based on their interpretation of a book of ancient stories.

Without being allowed to interpret the bible for myself , it would take a knife or a gun to get me to follow. and then of course you'd have to watch me every second or I would be sure you were investigated for fear you were satan himself . and I would be convincing,, The bible is meaningless without self intrerpretation,, It's alright to have other Ideas but no one wants satan telling us what to believe.....

Since the Catholic Church doesn't use the Bible very often, I think it was good that people got their hands on their own copy.
