I heard somewhere the best way mindless, arrogant people can change their attitude is to experience some life-changing event whether it's a serious illness or they lose someone close. Is there any other, not so extreme, way of dealing with a thick-headed, arrogant person?
( It wasn't Einstein, but someone said: 'madness is next to genius as arrogance is next to stupidity'
I said that to a fox hunter once, he didn't like it.)

...and for anyone who is defending arrogance, my definition is not confidence (confidence is good) but someone who is dismissive of others, acts superior in every way and doesn't realise how unpleasant and unapproachable they appear to others.

Not sure if even the first way works. My brother had a cancer-like disease twice, had chemotherapy for over 2 years and is still one of the most arrogant people I know. I love him to bits, but I don't know anybody worse ... if THAT doesn't work, what will?
I guess most arrogant people are really insecure deep down and use arrogance to disguise that - so maybe you'll only get behind the mask if you really know them, and they trust you so much that they don't feel the need to mask themselves ... a long road, though.
The last time I got my brother to listen was when I nearly lost control, which I haven't done since I was 10. THAT impressed and scared him, to have his older, albeit smaller, sister yelling at him for the first time ever.
I suppose you have to show them that they go to far. It won't happen without their feelings being involved, but how to get their feeligns involved? THAT is the question. No idea, apart from that close people don't want to hurt you, so if you play with that you might get them.Strangers? Sorry, NO idea!

Yrah it was Einstein who said arrogance is next to stupidity. It's also very close to ignorance which I feel is more akin socially. Arrogant people are normally, in my opinion, either poorly or over educated. Those who are overeducated, NOT all over educated or intelligent people, assert their academic superiority as a means of overcompensating for other social dfificulties they experience. These could be previously being bullied or not being popular throught their academoc prowess. Thise who are poorly educated use arrogance as a club to beat others with as they have been ridculed as being stupid, not that they are, and have found out that theycan beat some one down physically rather than discuss or srgue a point.
In short our society breeds arrogance as means of possible social control, or is at we encourage and nurture arrogance unwittingly or wittingly. We should start to look at our conceotiuons and views of those about us because one day people like Nick Griffin are going to steamroll and destroy our culture here alng woth thise around us.
Oh and i think some people are just p****s and thats just the way they are!
Hope this helps

Yes you ignore them to a point. Now if it goes beyond that point then it needs to be brought to the bosses attention. They need to be pulled aside and put back in there place.By the One in charge. Granted some arrogant people like to complain. Just because they can. Or to try and have someone removed or fired. They my not like the person for whatever reason. But if it gets out of hand then the Boss need to handle the situation promptly and fairly.Listening to all sides. Reminding them to work together not agents each other.

Yeah, pray - great answer whyteangel11. We can't change ppl - God can.
Ask God to help you guard yourself against picking up the same attitudes (probably aim not to spend a huge amount of time with them.)
Especially if they're a Christian, it may well be appropriate to say something to them about it - as long as you do it with a good attitude.

The very best way to deal with arrogant people is simply
turning your head the other way and just ignore them
like they are not there
Just keep on ignoring them and remember? they are trapped
in their own tiny world

The way to deal with arrogant people is------to pray for them and be patient with them.
They can be very annoying, but Christ died for the arrogant as well as the humble.
THE REAL TRICK IS, TO NOT LET THEIR ARROGANCE BECOME YOUR ARROGANCE.
PEACE.

WE MAKE THEM SUFFER....MWUAHAHHAAH...
No...seriously :) Humiliation can even humble the most arrogant of society and through hardships, one can develope an emotion that we'd like to call empathy allowing them to sympathizes with others who have felt or experienced similar hardships...

What is one persons arrogance is another persons truth. Is not labelling someone arrogant, arrogance itself?

Unfortunately in my experience, no! I tend to ignore them when they behaved arrogantly, as to try talking to them is a waste of breath. It only succeeds in making you stressed and angry, when they don't listen or accept that you have a different point of view from them.
