Does eating dry cereal make you gain a lot of weight? If so, why!?

it depends on the type of cereal. heavily processed cereals are digested very rapidly and cause drastic increases in blood sugar and insulin. insulin is basically a storage hormone, it helps the body to metabolize nutrients and stores the rest in either muscle tissue or fat cells. controlling insulin is the key to losing body fat and weight management.

Eating too much of anything makes you gain weight. The trick is to put out more calories than you take in every day in order to lose or maintain weight. Whole grain dry cereal without added sugar is a good snack to have once a day; better than fattening, sugary snacks. It contains vitamins and minerals you need to be healthy. Keep in mind that it needs to be counted with your total calories for the day, though. If you like it, include it in an overall healthy eating plan.

um...dry cereal is no different than any other food, i.e. if you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight & if you consume fewer calories than you expend, you will lose weight. in other words, no, eating dry cereal will not "make" you gain a lot of weight. YOU might make you gain a lot of weight, but you certainly won't be able to blame it on cereal...

that said, seriously try to pick a good (high protein, low GI, high fiber, sugar-free) cereal instead of that sugar-coated crap.
