"British forces have withdrawn from a base in Basra they shared with Iraqi police - the first step in a plan to move out all troops based in the city. "
What will America do when UK troops withdraw from an unjust conflict in Iraq?

I hope your next President remembers that before he comes knocking on Number 10, Downing Street London's door next time you need someone to help you when American decides to invade another country without sound Military basis.
You action explains WHY condolences were NOT expressed at a Military Church Service TODAY in Virginia for the 3 dead British Service Personnel killed in a "blue on blue" incident recently (as I read in a question here earlier).. it all becomes self explanatory now !!
READ THIS TO REMIND YOU OF WHAT UK TROOPS ARE SACRIFICING in order to help U.S. allies -

I am reminded of the FACT that USA even refused to lend... LEND mind you, mind detector equipment because the good ol' US of A did NOT want to involve itself in the politics of the Falklands war - Probably because there was no oil there for you or nothing of commercial value for America...
CHECK YOUR FACTS... and WHEN you find one, support it with a LINK..

I am British so don't think I am saying this because I am American. You speak as if this arrangement has always been one sided. Do you really think that having the British troops in Iraq somehow bailed out the U.S.? Nobody says that the troops aren't sacrificing a lot, they are, just like the Americans. Remember this in the future If the U.K. ever needs help the Americans have always been and will always be the first to help.

"In future, British forces will be based at an air station just outside Basra."
So a British unit moved within Iraq? The US forces do that all the time. There is nothing about the UK leaving Iraq. Try reading the entire article.
Edit--->
The article does not say they are being withdrawn out of IRAQ, just out of the CITY. It does not say they are being re-deployed to the UK.

The UK has approximately 5,500 troops around the Um-Qasr, Al-Basra area.
You asked "What will America do when UK troops withdraw from an unjust conflict in Iraq?"
The US has approximately 126,000 troops in Iraq should the UK leave I am sure we can figure something out.
Hey idiot below me......Troops from the UK get involved in blue on blue with the US when they fail to properly identify targets, equipment failure on behalf of the UK, they move into an area without properly communicating their location, or they get too close to the target.
Investigation after investigation proves that.
Blaming someone else might be easy, but it will not solve the issue.

Shia flag
The British military spokesman in Basra has dismissed reports that Shia militia men from the Mahdi Army took over the base after British forces passed control to Iraqi police last night.
Witnesses told the Associated Press the Mahdi Army emptied the building taking generators, computers, furniture and even cars.
THE CORPORATE MEDIA DOESN'T LIKE TO FOCUS ON THIS KIND OF THING.

The British are great troops. They had more people killed in action on the 1st day of Iraq than the US did with it's large force!
Hopefully we will begin to withdraw as well!
We aren't needed there, we do not belong there, and we can't even afford to treat the wounded, so we should not be there!!
As far as the UK, great people, great fighters! I have utmost respect for them!
Earth to Eve!!! You sound like Ann Coulter! There are NO CANADIAN troops in Iraq. There were none in Vietnam! You can't withdraw someone who never went!
Regarding the questioner not reading the article:
"The Ministry of Defence is said to be considering a major reinforcement of the NATO mission in Afghanistan, possibly sending up to 2,000 extra troops. Any reinforcement could coincide with an anticipated withdrawal of the 5,500-strong British forces from southern Iraq.
Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, will make a statement on the British presence in Iraq in October. MPs and officers alike expect him to begin Britain's final withdrawal from the country."
The Brits had 40,000 troops in Iraq in 2003, drawn down to 9,000, then to 7,000 2 years ago and now the remaining 5,500 will be pulled!

This is a definite YES. I hope that the other participants in this disgrace, will follow YOU as the leader and get out of there PRONTO. Remember this, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace and God Bless.

Usually we are left to go it alone, it's o.k., we'll handle it as usual by ourselves BUT, I do remember U.S. ships pulling up to the British Navy, and re-arming the "Harriers" with the deadly air to air U.S. made "Sidewinder Missile" when thing's did NOT look overwhelmingly good for the British troops in the "Falklands". When you're in a "PINCH", you'll find out quickly who your REAL friend's are, and who will "BAIL OUT" on you ! NUFF SAID !

It seems to me that troop withdrawl is a logical solution - as it is a civil war at its core, and not something the US ever should have meddled with but now has no business continuing to meddle with. The stability of the middle-east may crumble, but my honest opinion is that there are some BIG wars that region need to be fought and until those wars are fought that region won't ever be stable - gotta get the fighting out their system, not unlike WWII

As you can see their efforts were much appreciated...I just wish Canadians would follow suit. We gave them a deadline at least.
Hey, when the leader of Iraq calls it quits I think people should start getting the message that something just aint working here huh?
