by compacting the file do u mean changing the video format or just compacting it together into like a zip file?

You would either need to re-encode the video, or split it up into sizes. Now to do that, I would need to know more about the video, what codec it uses, and what not. One of my favorite encoders is, winavi.

It's simple to use and its real fast. But, it's not free.
Also, doom9 has some pretty good knowledge on DVD back up and different video and audio encoding
