Chris H is right, Ana is wrong.
Rubber is white is raw form, Carbon is added to make it more durable. Imagine your chewing gum rubbing against the road. How fast will it wear out?

The rubber in tires is strengthened by the addition of carbon black, which is just very finely powdered carbon.
