I have ran into so many people asking the dumbest questions and, sometimes, attacking other people's beliefs. I read a question about a person saying that Atheists are related to monkeys and should therefore be put in a zoo and treated like monkeys. I have also seen questions about Atheists saying there is no god. Why can't people just accept other people's beliefs and values?

To Kyle R:
If that's what your god says, so be it. It doesn't bother me at all.

It is not human nature to accept others as they are, we want everyone to be as we believe they should be. Why do you think there is so much strife and disparity in World, Black/white, Christian/Muslim, Rich/poor. But consider what a boring place we would live in if everybody believed and thought the same way. Concerning atheists related to monkeys, you need to take that for what it is, an ignorant comment from an ignorant person.

Because we all have a lot riding on our religious beliefs. When a person comes along with a different, opposite set of beliefs, I have no problem accepting that. I'm 100% aware that they might be right and I might be wrong. That's what the discussion here is all about, right?
But not everybody thinks that way. Most people on both sides of the equation are secure enough in their beliefs to accept that other people have different beliefs and have no problem with that.
YA isn't open just to mature answerers. When a person who is insecure in his beliefs comes on and sees people who belief the opposite from him, his belief system is threatened and he gets scared and lashes out with name calling and insults.
With the immature ones, this is the only way they know how to deal with the threat of a person with a different kind of belief.

You're somehow equating athiest saying there is no god to a christian saying all atheist should be put in a zoo?
My belief is that there is no god. I'm fine with me believing that. Christians believe there is a god. I'm fine with them believing that. I wish they were fine with me not believing.
Me beliving there is no god is not an insult to Christians. It's an isult to god. I don't say that to insult anyone. I say that for discussion sake. Christians saying I should be put in a zoo and tormented is not only insulting, it's childish, prejudice, and it explains why there is so much hatred in the world. Religion.
I believe that Christians do good things. Christians don't believe that atheists do good things. I do good things, but I do it for the sake of being good to my fellow beings, not for the sake of my own salvation.

because....people who live in a "free" world, can believe what they choose to believe, right or wrong, like or dislike. It is also difficult for people to open up, give up their judgement and biases. Like i believe and advocate strawberry ice-cream is the best flavor of all time; you or others who read this may think i'm dumb for thinking that way because......the person reading this likes what they like.
Side note: Atheists, that is their thing. They don't have religion, that is what people call others without religious belief.

A lot of people are ignorant about the religion in question. If a child is exposed to religion when young, they'll usually be more tolerant to that religion. All religions have extremists and non-believers. A religion should be between that person and their higher being. Personally, I'm open to all beliefs as long as it's not shoved upon me.

People can't just accept other people's beliefs because they want attention, don't care about other people's choice of religions. Each person has their way of viewing things which makes each one of us different. Read the First Amendment and you should understand why it's important to any person.

We have the priviledge of answering questions here and need to be respectful. Some people are very serious about their beliefs and we should not put them down because we disagree. I think some people post just to get crazy answers.

I've just watched a female genital mutilation on youtube. Actually I had to look away for some of it but I heard the screams. I won't accept the beliefs and values of THAT culture.

It is possible to be respectful of other's beliefs, but still exercise wisdom. Not all belief systems can be true, in fact, a correct belief system should be exclusive of wrong ideas. Accepting all ideas as equally valid is trading wisdom for blind tolerance.

Most people who put their faith in organized religion (the vast majority being christian in my experience) continuously push their beliefs and agenda onto others. Then they have the audacity to get angry when they are rebuffed. Why would I, or anyone for that matter, accept or respect that?
