I am looking for a job and am thinking about using a temp service. How do I go about applying with Kelly Services or Manpower. Do I just go by there or do I call? Do I have to take anything with me like a resume? I don't have much work experience and I only have a HS diploma (not much of a resume). Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Call first and ask them how to go about it.

Typically, they will want to interview you just as a regular employer would.

Call your local Manpower office and set up an appointment for an interview and they will fill you in on what you need to do. I worked through Manpower shortly after I graduated high school. The training and experience I gained through them was invaluable. They have changed a great deal over the years and I believe now they require you to have certain skills before they will consider you for assignments. When I first started out with them they offered me training in several different computer programs which I'm not sure they offer anymore. Many times a temp assignment can lead to permanent employment based on your job performance and also good job evals lead to much better assignments.

It is a great stepping stone until you find the job that is right for you.

Good luck!

You can either call or just stop by, however, if you set up an appointment in advance, you're more likely to get an interview. They will have you fill out a form similar to a job application, to get general information on your qualifications and what you're most interested in. Then they will probably give you an aptitude test to see where your strong and weak points lie. A personal interview will be next, and if they feel you're a match to whatever they have available in what you're interested in, they will set up an interview for you with that company.

Incidentally, a temporary job is a good way to get a foot in the door for permanent employment. You will get the experience you need, and often times a company will hire a good temp permanently, especially if there's an opening during the time you're working there part time or temporarily. And you'll be getting a salary during the time you'd ordinarily be job hunting, thereby saving you the hassle of going to job interview after job interview. Good luck!
