If I were marking your photos for an assignment based on animals, I'm afraid I would mark you very low. It appears you have spent five minutes with a point and shoot camera and have not put in any effort.
You need to frame your photos better. Don't take every shot as a landscape shot, turn your camera and try a portrait shot. Especially if you are doing a close up of the dog's face. Also watch the cropping, you've cut parts of the animal out and it looks clumsy. Photograph the full dog or get in closer.
Change your angles. Photographing from your height only gives one perspective. Try getting down to the dogs height, or lay down and photograph up to the dog - if he is standing beside you.
Get away from the bland background. Get out of the boring shadows. There is very little colour in these photos, try green grass and a blue sky. If you can't go elsewhere, at least move your dog more than a metre away from the wall, this will help drop the wall out of focus (depending on your depth of field).

A dog is very much a person like a human. So a good picture of a dog is one in which its personality shines. You can achieve this by:
1. Just like taking a portrait of a human person, the focus of the picture should be on the eyes. Dog's eyes is not so easily visible as human eyes, because there is no white area visible in the eye, and because its entire face is covered with fur. Make sure that you take its picture with strong lighting, pereferrably natural outdoor light. Avoid using flash, because this will cause the dog to have red eyes.
2. Take the picture at a low level, the best level being putting the camera at the same level as your dog's eyes. If you really like dog, you would sometimes get down on your knees, play with its fur, etc. That also goes when taking picture of dogs. Get to their level.
3. If possible, use long focal length. This is to blur the background so your dog becomes very clearly defined from everything else in the picture.
Rule of thumb is: it's just like taking picture of a human person. Hope this helps.

Nice looking dogs. Your photos are a bit better than mundane snapshots. The boring, in-focus backgrounds, flat lighting, and the shot from above perspective don't help.
Try to capture your dogs in different locations, maybe doing something interesting. Also, pet photos are much more dynamic when shot at their level. If you can separate them from the background your image will have more depth and the dog then becomes the main focal point without distraction. Also, try not to "amputate" paws or other parts when moving in closer.
Pet photography is a lot like human photography, but with more fur and sometimes better behaved subjects! Keep practicing.

I think they are pretty good. Maybe try taking some pics with different backgrounds like in a park or near water. Add a little more color to really let your dogs stand out.

"My dog Zeus" is the best one. Try taking one while he is looking away, not 90 degrees, but 45. Some vegitation behind him is good. A good photo has an odd number of major elements, like focal points. Does that make sense?
