I'm trying to understand a small and subtle detail: what is the difference between "telling the truth" and candidness. Another way of describing this is by saying that we can make statements that are truthful, but not entirely candid. For example, I could say, "I'm doing well" in response to a question about my health. In the larger scheme of my life, I may be doing well. HOWEVER, I may also neglect to mention that I had been severely sick - even though, I've recovered. In essence, I haven't told a lie. I'm doing well. But, I haven't been candid either - thereby creating a barrier between myself and the person asking the question

Let me be frank with you, one tells the truth, and others perceive his or her candidness.

Being candid means saying what you think without reservation, and all too often without regard for the feelings of others. What a candid person blurts out without forethought is usually just his/her subjective opinion, which may have little in common with the actual objective truth of the situation.

You can tell the truth just for the sake of telling the truth. Just because something is true, however, it doesn't have to be said. Like if someone is really fat you don't have to say, "you are really fat - loose weight'.

Candid is truth "off the cuff" truth that comes without thinking it through first.

to be There is truth to any given situation. Being direct about this truth is candid.

Then there is an ultimate truth with spiritual truths that take on the quality and dynamic to set a person free. Not to be confused with being candid.

Well, the Bible says to be truthful. It doesn't say to be candid, which is a good thing most of the time.
