He was obviously set on the idea of building up a mormon city, or zion. The large migrations were what caused all the problems in the first place. People didn't want the mormons to take over the political vote, and they didn't want them to take over all their land. If they just stayed where they were instead of all migrating to one place they would have had a much easier time. For this reason alone, I think Joseph Smith was a fraud with his "visions" of a modern day Jerusalem. God, supposedly knowing everything, would have known a better way of doing things. They didn't then, and still haven't built a modern day Jersualem. I don't see it ever happening in the future either.

Nijg: What does the book of mormon have to do with this question? It sounds like you're just avoiding the question, just like a typical mormon should.

Jesus is going to rule and reign from Jerusalem as King of Kings. It says this in the Bible, so He will not rule from anywhere else. Jerusalem is playing such an important place within God's plan that even satan (anti-christ) is going to sit in the Jewish temple and proclaim to be God. America is not the chosen land.

Obviously they thought that there was safety in numbers! And, that really proved to be right, wouldn't you say there, Al? They tried living in Nauvoo, minding their own business, and then, here come the ' good citizens of the state', and they burned the town to the ground! After that, they were chased from town to town! They were shot, hung, and beaten to death! They ran until they got to Utah! Where they thought they would be free and save at last!
And , Al? Please feel free to rant and rave, here, about the Mountain Meadows Massacre! You and your little friends,( they know who they are) are nothing more than trolls!
I see what you, and the others are doing, and soon other readers will too!

Don't judge 21st century standards on early 19th century peoples.
Most small religious groups back then tended to band together.

Hey are you hiding from skype or something.
I always wondered the same thing. Why is it so important that everybody gathers in one spot. You'd think that would be less effective.

That book of Smith's is just that, a book written by a MAN.It is not the inspired word of God, just as is the Qua ran not of the God Yahweh. The inconsistencies and errors are not God's style.

Quite simply stated, Joseph Smith was a charlatan and hoodwinked his followers. He was jailed for marrying other men's wives and died in a shootout because he smuggled a weapon into jail. Mormons consider him a martyr, but he was nothing more than a liar.
