My microwave turns on and I am able to input numbers, which show properly. When I press "cook", the timer counts down, but it does not cook.

either of the above, but it sounds like u are techically challenged soooo

it is price vs cost of repair.
door switch, diode fairly cheap, but so is a $50 unit at Wal-mart.

magnatron - forget it.

if it is a $200 + unit under 5 years old it may be worth a door switch.

Your problem is a bad door switch. There are about 4 switches that are latched to the door for safety reasons they must follow a sequence. The one suppling the power to your high voltage is open or has a bad connection to it. If this is the case, you will not hear the high voltage circuit or fan kicking in.
Have replaced lots of these in the past & is a very simple fix.

Could be a bad diode. You can get it repaired, or you might just want to replace it. If it IS a diode, you have to ask what caused it to go out. OTOH, the magnetron itself could be compromised. Might not be worth the effort. Don't let the wiseacres above scare you. Radioactive gases indeed!! Harrumph! The safety interlocks won't let anything bad happen to you.

It's time put that dog out of its misery. Go to Sears and buy a new microwave. They have super awesome prices and a large selection.

It sounds like your 'wave blew its amplifier regulator. You could be leaking deadly radioactive gases into your world. I hope you have some lead lined jeans and a hazmat helmet.
