Everyone has issues with their bodies, including me, and I do believe that some need it and are entitled to it. But why should relatively normal and healthy people be allowed to have it just because they have money, or can borrow money, to pay for it? I would also question the ethics of the people who perform these procedures for profit and the minds of people who go through this to massage their egos and tend to their own vanity.

I have no interest in cosmetic surgery. I'm happy with my body and the woman in my life loves me the way I am.

i've been thinking the exact same thing for years. people go in there looking better than when they come out. plastic surgery is a great thing to have around, for those with deformities or have been injured badly. i think people need to stop being so self-centered and need to realize that this image of perfection has been brought on by ignorant, shallow people. by the unnaturalness of celebrities appearances in movies. and the lovely airbrushing jobs done to, well, every photo now published in a magazine. those surgeons who do these procedures obviously must also have a weak self-image, or at one point in their lives did. they are also probably incredibly greedy. oh and all these reality makeover shows are just getting on my last nerve. if they are going to help people who really need it, i don't see the point in overdramatizing, and making those people feel as though they were worthless before their miraculous surgery. i guess they do it for the ratings =/ that's my outlook on the topic.

This is a tough one, but i think i am on the side of free choice. I think people should do whatever makes them feel happy. Some people suffer for years, are teased, bullied and made to feel like an outcast because of the way they look. it shouldn't be so, but it is! If surgery can restore their confidence, then I wouldn't deny them that. I take your point about vanity, but I am sure that some of the things you do may be considered vain to somebody else. we all have a vain side to us, but some people take it a step further in a quest for perfection, but if they have the money to do so, then why should anyone else care? as long as they are not asking for donations, i don't care. You are very lucky that you have someone that is content with the way you look, but a lot of others are not so fortunate.

I belief I am somwhat of an expert as I have been in the medical field my entire working career and I work for a large plastic surgeons office. Believe me....performing the surgery does nothing for the surgeon's ego. These patients trust them and are coming to them about things they aren't happy about and who has the right to say if they do or don't need the procedures? These skilled and talented surgeons go to school for many, many years to help people look their best. Patients WANT to do this for themselves. No one is holding a gun to their head to get it done. And what do you mean by "allowed" to do it. Do they need permission?? Just because YOU may not agree with it doesn't make it wrong.

OK .. let's put it this way:
we want our kids to be healthy, smart, beautiful, successful ....
according to that, we chose our partners (ideally) ... what's been fixed by plastic surgery for any parent can't help a child, because it's not in genes, but it does say about someone that he/she is being able to take control, earn enough, take care of him/her self ... those are qualities ... why do we chose clothes we wear? ... it's the same thing ... the only problem is: money is mostly in hands of wrong people, but we still fall under influence of what society (dictated by them) finds to be beautiful and appealing ...

there are 2 choices: ignore the rest of the world, be who you are, hope for a soul-mate who'll see beauty in that, and have kids who'll fightt the same figh ...
or, the second choice: go with the flow ... accept the fact that everything in this world is "advertising", be smart, and push some important issues dressed up in their costumes ...

people who are willing to do ANYTHING to make themselves look good are shallow or stupid, or weak ... some boundaries have to be made ...

I honestly believe that in near future too small IQ, and serious ugliness ARE going to be considered as illness, but today .. healthy people don't go round telling everyone how healthy they are, they just are, and that allows them stay focused on other things ... it's going to be the same with beauty ...

they actually perform miricles in some people, my sister was dieting her self to death, down to 72lbs. trying to get her lower body to look better with her flat chest, after having her breasts enlarged she started eating properly and had more self confidence about herself.
