Follow your heart.
Don't listen to other people trying to convert you to their religion. Don't listen to what the Bible says just because it's the Bible. Don't let OTHER people decide for you...let your heart decide. It is the ONLY source that is completely infallible, and if you listen closely, you will be able to know what is right and what is wrong in an instant.
Also, it is perfectly acceptable to believe parts of different religions as long as they resonate as true in your heart. I'm a spiritual mutt. I believe in parts of all different world religions, and I believe only in the parts that sound true to my heart. I take what I want and leave the rest, and I don't care what anybody else says. It only matters what my HEART says.
Good luck, and many blessings!

Sounds like you are having (at least) two separate issues which you need to investigate one at a time.
First of all, it is clear that you are a mono-theist (believe in one god) so you are not an atheist. Atheists do not believe in any deities at all. Some are spiritual (like Buddhists) and some disavow everything spiritual/mystical.
If you are unsure of the existence of any higher power and want to spend time on exploring that question, you can call yourself an Agnostic (basically means "undecided").
The second issue is with which religion best reflects your beliefs and which church (if any) you wish to attend. These are actually two different things for some people, but it sounds like you may want to take it slow (too many choices might be upsetting). Many people are very religious but have found they were unhappy with the religion they were raised in (their parent's religion).
Try a non-denominational church. One that could give you support for your beliefs without being strict on dogma and canon (church rules).
Later when you feel stronger or choose to learn more, you can explore why your mom was "disowned" by the Catholic church, and find a church that agrees with you that that is not fair.
PS: I would guess that it was over the issue of divorce or sex before marriage. Catholics are very progressive about science but very strictly against divorce, pre-marital sex, and birth control.

To love God is the first step to know who He is. Don't blame Him for what (religions) do. Having a relationship with Him and He will show you what is right. There is nothing wrong with being catholic and if some people don't like that about you well that is their problem. God loves you. If they disowned your mom they are at fault for that behavior. Just keep praying and God will show you the way. Just ask Jesus into your heart to be your Lord and Savior and He will lead you and guide you into righteousness and show you the truth.

Keep on using your brains to analyze religions.
The Catholic Church would never disown a woman for having a child. If your mom was disowned, it was because of one stupid priest, or one stupid Catholic congregation, or something else: it wasn't the Church.
Loving God and trying to find out what He wants from you is all that religion is about anyway. Keep on doing that and you will be all right.

first off, dont let "religous" people ruin religion for you. there are alot of judgmental hypocrites out there that give christians a bad name. second i just did alot or research on creationism V evolution. and i can tell you that the more you research it the more you will realize there is a God. you should see the numbers of PHd holding mathmeticians and scientist who have convinced them selves of a god while trying to prove evolution. its amazing. basically the big bang and evolution are mathematically and scientifically impossible without intelligent design.

Here's a passage from the Bible to get you started...
James 1:5-6
5- If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6- But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
In modern English-
If you have a serious question about a serious matter, pray to God (He freely answers prayers without reproaching or finding fault) and God will answer...
But ask in faith- do it with commitment, because he who is uncommitted is as consistent as the waves of the sea...
So.. do some reading, do some thinking, then do some praying. Be willing to accept and act on whatever answer you get..... Matthew 26:39... "nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt."

Forget religion, trust in Jesus. Follow Christ, the church cannot do anything for you. It is the Lord who is our protection and provision. It is the Lord who is our Savior and Creator. Get into the Word of God, the Holy Bible and hear what God is saying to you. Read the NKJV Bible because it is easier for someone who hasn't read the Bible to understand. God is pulling you to Him. Trust in the Lord and not in man.

I agree with Jamie. It's sad that your mom's church disowned her but don't give up on God. Show those people you are a good person and will overcome any obstacle.

about the evolution thing im muslim and we believe in evolution but just not applied to humans...
the church cant decide if your acceptable for their religion or not... if you like the beliefs of catholicsm or another religion you should follow it because it feel natural for you and you like it. if you cant find a religion to fit your beliefs then i guess you dont have to have a religion; you believe what you want to believe.

with GOD all things are possible
Remember CHRIST EMMANUEL said we are HIS church
the catholic church is the backbone of HIS church
yet still you have to understand that this backbone is run by men, living breathing imperfect men, trust JESUS first, then accept the baptism of fire and the HOLY GHOST, and they shall lead you up the narrow way to GOD the FATHER;
love HIM always and forever
