I read on Pet Connection.com that the stores are relabeling the recalled foods and they are putting new labels over the old labels to make it look like the food is ok. The Article is under their Blog and it is Called " THE FOOD OR JUST THE LABELS.

People are hearing that the stores are taking the food that they did not throw away and they are putting new code bar stickers on the old ones with different dates on them.

The Itchmo site has been keeping all news stories updated on their site, they have two stories on this--I've put the second (older) story in the link below.

WalMart claims no responsibility, that they checked with Menu foods who told them they were using old packaging that hadn't been filled (they've got boxes of foil packaging, remember, it's a manufacturing plant) and not resending recalled food they'd gotten back. Menu foods had not answered the reporter's calls, to confirm this.

The recalled pet foods were given as commercial fish food, chicken, pig and cattle feed, supposedly all of it was turned over to other animals as a protein source (remember all the news stories about pigs having it in their meat tissues?). Though I never saw a news story about what the literally TONS of food had done with them to be disposed of. One would assume they were incinerated, but it's looking like they just pushed it into the food chain for other farm animals.

I don't want to believe this....

In any case, I buy good quality foods at an independently owned pet store, so I'm not worried.

THANK YOU for bringing this to our attention. This is just WRONG--well, not just wrong--CRIMINALLY WRONG, and anyone/any company who is doing this should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I guess some will stoop to the lowest possible gestures for the almighty buck!
