First thing, teeth are NOT NATURALLY BRIGHT WHITE! Natural variations in teeth color go from off white to yellowish white. Bright white is NOT natural.

That being said... 'whitening' toothpastes work by being more abrasive than normal toothpaste and some contain varying forms of peroxide. Overuse of whitening toothpastes usually cause tooth sensitivity and sometimes weakening/thinning of the tooth enamel which will actually give your teeth a blue tinge. The whitening toothpastes will not do much to 'whiten' your teeth. They are more effective as a follow up to a whitening treatment.

If you want the 'look at me I have really white, not natural' teeth look, go to a dentist and have a professional treatment. Lots of money. Try the at home whitening kits, from what I've seen if you have VERY straight teeth the 'whitening strips' that stick to your teeth work well. If your teeth aren't straight they don't work so well, go for the brush on or fill the tray type gels.

Toothpastes CANNOT whiten teeth, they can only remove some stains. The companies can say whatever they want as they aren't regulated as toothpaste is considered a cosmetic item. The only way to lighten is with the strips...which only do the front 6 teeth or with professional lightening.

on Judy & Richard they did a survey over a few weeks which showed I believe, Macleans whitening just had the edge. I use bicarbonate of soda on my brush to whiten mine, being slightly abrasive, though gentle it does lift stains. Nothing works as well as professional whitening though.

no toothpaste can actually whiten your teeth, even if it claims to have special whitening powers.

I don't notice a difference when I use whitening toothpaste.
But I do recommend Crest Whitening Strips.
They work like magic!

Yup, pastes don't whiten teeth. If you want celebrity white teeth get them bleached.
