A misdeameanor theft is a small theft. Any theft over a $100.
value becomes a felony. You will have to go to court, and the
Judge will see if you have any "priors" on your record, to
determine your penalty. It will become a "permanent" part of
your record. And in many places of work. They prosecute to
the fullest extent of the law, which, of course is determined by
the judge. And your employment may be terminated where
you are/were working.

A petty misdemeanor is technically not a crime, but is a term used for ordinance violations such as speeding.
A misdemeanor in theft is a dollar amount, from $.01 up to $250. Misdemeanors have a sentence of up to 90 days in jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine.

Never heard of petty misd. theft, in my area there is no such thing.

You will have to go to court, but you will not get jail time...probably just some probation and a small fine.

Petty means small. You no longer work at Kohl's. The paperwork may not be complete yet, but you last your job the instant you were caught stealing.
