ok i typed up my projects but didnt finish 1 so i saved it nd today opened it. I tried to type and i got this message
"This modification is not allowed because the selection is locked"
how do i unlok this selection because i cant type or print any of my documents or do i have to retype my whole projects?

If Word 2007 came on your new machine, it may be a trial version that was good for 30 or 60 days. At the end of that time it will let you read your files, but not edit them. You have to purchase Microsoft Office to continue editing them.
Kind of like being hooked like a fish, isn't it?

When it says "This modification is not allowed because the selection is locked" it means that there is something wrong with the Microsoft office program.
To solve this problem, you must run a diagnostics check or download/re-install the program again.

You're probably trying to open the file on a computer on which you didn't create it. Try opening it on the computer on which you created it.
Whatever the real reason, here's a quick and easy way to solve the problem:
Go to File--> Save As
Save the file with a new name (say "newfile.doc").
Shut down Word and restart it.
Open newfile.doc
It'll allow you to make changes.
Don't bother trying to unlock the selection / file. It's much too complicated.
