the filling is about three years old and the dentist who did it quit. It isnt a very neat filling it like oozes over my tooth even though the hole was only small. I am going the dentist tomorrow for a check up and to see if he can make it look any better also

Yes you can have your filling changed to a white filling!! The only problem is you will not get it for free on the NHS like all your other treatment. This is because white fillings are considered cosmetic. Thus if you do not work it would be wise to ask your parents if they'll foot the bill. White fillings cost approximately £40-£75 each (depending on your location).

Not on the NHS. The NHS only pays for white fillings in front teeth or between back teeth, but will not pay for white fillings in the biting surface of back teeth.
Also, the NHS will not pay for a filling to be replaced unless there is a clinical need for it to be done.
If you desperately want to change it to a white one, speak to your dentist and ask if he will do it privately, but be prepared to spend up to £100 to have it done.

If you want it changed because it is giving you problems, they will recommend a silver filling. If you want a white one for cosmetic reasons, they will charge you; white fillings aren't available on the NHS as they aren't deemed a necessity, so the government won't fund for them. But if you can get the money from somewhere, then go for it!

Yes I had six fillings in my molars changed nearly 20 years ago and other than one falling out 12 years they have been great. One was fairly big and it was not a problem . I think you might have to have it done privately.

I've had mine replaced when they got older, because that's the only way to do it here in the US without paying an arm and a leg for it...but check with your insurance to see what's covered.

i don't know how the dental insurance works there; probably you need to wait till the silver one gets old and then they can refill it with white. for now, if there is nothing wrong with your silver one, then it would not be advisable to change it.
