I think there is no set age limit. You have to decide how mature your child is. The Internet should generally be available on a computer in a public place like a living room. It can often be a mistake to give young children access to the Internet unsupervised. You need to have a detailed talk about a code of conduct for their online activity, and you need to install parental software to protect and secure the Internet as much as possible.
I think it is very important to let children explore, and not be too restrictive of what they do. They have to learn maturity and responsibility, and you cannot wrap them up in cotton wool and try and protect them from every little thing. If you do that too long, when they get out into the real world they will be vulnerable and naive, and you won't be there to protect them. It is better to teach good decision making, than making every decision for them.

it depends on the kid and the parent..
if a parent is letting their kid use the internet becuase they are too lazy to be a good parent... then the kid is going to get into trouble..
the computer should be in a main room NOT in the kids room EVER
as far as myspace goes.. 16 is too young in my opinion..kids play some nasty evil mind games on there.. talking bad about other kids.. then copy and pasting stuff to those kids.. starting rumours.. I know that stuff happens in real life too but when its on the internet - its permenant.. and hard.. you can read it over and over.. very very nasty...
I think myspace fills an emotional need for kids to feel important.. this need should be met in real life NOT on the internet..
kids are saying they have 100 "friends" but half those people dont even know who you are.. never mind the potential for sickos...
it is not a parents job to provide internet access for their kids...

as a teacher in middle school, this is a tough call. i have notcied that many of my students are using myspace and it's not just to communicate with others but to talk about sex and other sorts of things that you can only imagine. i say it all depends. if you are able to monitor the internet and how much of it your son or daughter use of it, then that is totally your doing. it's definitely also very beneficial not to be too strict, the more strict you are the worst it is and the more they are going to try and do sneaky stuff. it's definitely a tough call but one that you alone have to decide on depending on the way that your children are.

i think when ever you think he is responsible enough to understand what to do and not to do with it, i know alot little kids like ages from 10-13 that already have myspace, its a really good way for kids wo keep in touch with friends and the thing with the sex offenders is practicly rare. so if you think you can trust your kid to use the internet and myspace let him

facebook, no longer MySpace, 14 years previous. No, i'm no longer my son's chum, yet I truthfully have his password and that i will verify at any time and he knows i'm going to. He does not have his final call, beginning date, address, and so on obtainable to work out. (i do no longer in basic terms like the hot privateness settings, the form of soreness.) maximum of his acquaintances are on it, no longer something undesirable is going on and it quite is a sturdy thank you to maintain in touch along with his acquaintances. His deepest college 8th grade classification had 35 young ones in it and that they went off to ten diverse severe colleges, so facebook is quite handy. I truthfully have a MySpace, have for years, and that i've got considered all of the drama on it whilst in comparison with facebook. yet none of those social networking web pages are completely risk-free, of direction. Any underage teenager desires supervision for those web pages, for their very own risk-free practices. youth don't have the proper judgment.

I believe any Internet access is good and health for kids, they learn best when it is available. However saying that ANYTHING kids do should be monitored by the parents. But if they don't learn about the world, how will they be able to know how to act in it when they leave the house?

Mine are 14 and 16 yr. olds (girls). I won't let my 13 yr. have myspace till she's 14. Our computer is in our kitchen so its out in the open. Its definately used by all our kids for school.
