Sometimes it's just better to let these things go unless you want to become the next victim & join your friend. Did it ever occur to you that perhaps your friend was NOT the intended victim & the shooter missed or made a mistake? Don't give a person with an unstable mind & a loaded gun a reason to come looking for you or any of your family members that they see you with. It's sad that this happened, but now you need to take care of yourself & see this as what it is...A WAKE-UP CALL! Don't make yourself the next target unless you have no living relatives or close friends that you'll be putting in harms way. Let the professionals handle this. You might need some protection if you were with her when this happened. Tell the Police your fears & ask for their help. You are also a victim & there is a fund that will assist you in getting some therapy & possibly moving if you need to. It is listed under the Federal Government as "Victims of Violent Crimes" & I urge you to do some research to help you with this dilemma.

Personally you are looking for trouble as the murderer will still probably be armed and dangerous even if he/she threw that gun away. But guns should have serial numbers which should be able to be traced back to the shops, unless dealt out illegally. If the shop is found, video surveillance should reveal the culprit. I would just let the police handle the case, there is no such thing as the perfect crime. There will always be evidence if one looks hard enough.

offer rewards!
go to a psychic!
report the incident to the police! they will trace the source(place where gun was fired)and look for witnesses, find any minute trace of any kind, have some forensic test, look for motives, have some suspects and do some questioning and so on.
wait! haven't i seen this scene somewhere, what episode was that?

If you tell us when and where this happened, there is a remote chance someone here saw something. Without that information, we can't give you any help.
