Perhaps we think that, because the Middle East is the "cradle of civilization.
I keep getting stuck on that phrase:
"In the Beginning, God"
and I am just positive that there was a time, in the Beginning, when everyone knew God.

The God of all gods belongs to every culture of man trying to ascend. My God never stopped talking to us when Yeshua went to OLAM, I know there is a level of reality better than our current human society. But God lets us little gods learn and evolve up to God, if the believer needs for the allegories and tribal histories of the Bible to be the only literal truth in order to be a moral person that is what is.

It could be because Middle Eastern culture had been untouched by Indian-Greek philosophies, which though very useful for critical thinking, would not allow stable definitions of words or fixed concepts. Jews/Arabs were legalistic but not ‘creative’ enough to invent new word-definitions to suit their ulterior motives. Secondly, the Middle East also has a very long tradition of memorization, which was important for transmission of God's word.

But according to Islamic beliefs, God did send prophets, messengers and teachers of righteousness to all peoples of the world, though those prophets might have come thousands of years ago. That is why there is quite a bit of similarity between cultures as far as ethics is concerned. For example, it would be difficult to find a culture in which stealing is good.

I think this youtube video covers this subject nicely of why God (Glorious and Exalted is He) chose people of the desert for his revelations. Hope you enjoy listening to this. This is an interview with the late Muhammad Asad, a convert to Islam who also translated the Qur'an. I highly recommend you read an English translation of the Qur'an. I also recommend Muhammad Asad's autobiography called 'The Road to Mecca', which may further shed insight into your enquiry. Here is the video I spoke of:

If to say very shortly, at first God chose Abraham, because God saw the faith of him. Then God promised Abraham to multiply his seed. God did it through Jesus Christ. Everyone who believes is the seed of Abraham, because he first believed in our God.
