It's not safe at all. It's also illegal just as the aliens are illegal.

In some states a private nursing home is not required by law to check fingerprints but they normally conduct a background check. The problem is that the background check is usually done locally and if the person has stolen a ssn of a person living another state the record will come back clear. You are asked if you have lived in another state in the last five years. If you respond no then no other state is checked. There are and have been cases or STNAs and nurses who have worked without a license or a fraudulent license or certificate. While you might want to think that only those who have direct patient care could do harm to a patient you forget that housekeepers, maintenance, unit clerks, any outside contractors are around the patients and their belongings. The most at risk patients are the ones least able to defend themselves or tell others what is happening. Sexual assaults do occur, abuse does occur, assaults from staff and other patients occur, thefts occurs. A nursing homes have something called an incident report. This is not available to the public or the family members even if they request it. Police are never called without the administrator giving approval first. When you place your family member in a nursing home you can't be sure of their safety.

According to the Omni Bus Reconciliation act of 1988, All nursing facilities are required to pass state inspections that are unannounced. In order to work in the facility I work in, I had to have at least 90 hours classroom training,24 hours of clinicals, and maintain a 2.5 average just to take the state exam. When I applied for a job as a CNA, I had to have a 3.0 average be issued a license from the state I work in, back round check, and I had to sit in an interview that was comprised of a committee of three, twice. I then was hired as a temp, When I applied for a permanent job, the interview process started all over again.
If you are in need of a nursing facility, I suggest that you interview the facility and ask alot about the competency of the staff, staff ratios, and turnover rate.

Just as safe as any other business that hires ILLEGALS. You do get what you pay for. If you can afford a place that hires only legal workers, that is where you want to go.
Why trust a place who hires people with phony IDs and SSNs? You cannot be sure of any place that hires ILLEGALS.
Especially in a health care environment! Legal immigrants must be screened for disease, like tuberculosis and such. Why trust your loved one to a place that hires ILLEGALS who have had no such screening at all?

I don't like illegals but I'm not worried about the nursing homes thing because in order to work in one you have to go get a class 1 fingerprint card if you are in direct care of a resident you can fake ssn but not fingers

Well, obviously it is not safe ... illegals don't go through any medical background checks, consequently nobody knows whether or not they are carriers of TB, hepatitis, or what have you .... the same goes for illegals working in restaurants ... we don't KNOW anything about them ... legal immigrants all have to have a background check, which includes a full medical checkup ... which is just one of the reasons why illegals are to put it mildly undesirable .....

It's not very safe. Everyone working in these places should have a police clearance. If they hire illegal aliens just imagine the other "short-cuts" they must be taking.

U can't assure the safety anyway. If these facilities hire such people, then they should be shut down.
