I have finished my degree which has nothing to do with finance or accountancy but I want to become a tax advisor. I haven't had much success applying for trainee positions because I missed 2.1 class so I have decided to do further studies to beef up my CV. I am only interested in one year post grad studies though....

No education in finance but you want to be a tax adviser ? ? ?

Hmmmmmm , curious ,

Well my suggestion would be to work for the government taxing authority for a couple of years .
That would be a substitute for the college and you would know first hand the tax issues for your locale .

The top professional body for tax advisors is the Chartered Institute of Taxation which offers the Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) qualification.

This is what you should be aiming for.

However, there is a lower level qualification called ATT (Associate Tax Technician).

Don't do it!!!!!

If you must then you need to study for the ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians) I did this in 7 months and then go on to study for the CTA (Chartered Taxation Accountant) You should find by having passed the ATT most prospective employers will sponsor the CTA.

I still say don't do it.
