Smallpox was heralded as the first disease to have been eradicated from the planet by man in 1977. We now know that is not true. Frozen lab sticks do exist.

The last reported case of smallpox was in Somalia in October 1977. There has not been a reported case worldwide since then. The virus still remains in (hopefully) heavily guarded freezers.
Thomas Jefferson was the man with the vision for world eradication of small pox, let's hope he is smiling happily about it, somewhere!

no, there has not been a confirmed case of smallpox anywhere in the world in more than 10 years.
