Its not healthy but her dogs arent going to die. Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs. If a 50-pound dog eats a teaspoonful of milk chocolate, it's not going to cause serious problems. However, if that same dog gorges himself on a two-layer chocolate cake, his stomach will feel more than upset and soon it's likely he'll be vomiting or experiencing diarrhea. Another factor is the age of the dog and how healthy they are. Not all chocolate is the same. Some has a small amount of theobromine; another type has a large amount and still another contains an amount that is somewhere in between. The quantity has a relationship with the weight of your dog. Small dogs can be poisoned, it is easy to understand, from smaller amounts of theobromine than large dogs. White chocolate. It has the least amount of theobromine: 1 mg per ounce. Far on the other side of the spectrum is baking chocolate, which has a huge 450 mg of theobromine per ounce! You may want to tell your auntie this and if she still wants to give her dogs chocolate suggest buying them carob treats. Carob is a great alternative to chocolate that is healthy and safe for dogs. They carry these kinds of treats at most pet stores.

Even though dogs tend to love the sweets like we do-it's definately not a good idea to feed it to them.My mom had a german shepard that was hooked on snickers candy bars & she continued to feed them to her .The dog died of a bad heart because of the snickers.I would encourage her not to feed snickers to the dogs because of this.

Chocolate is supposed to be very inappropriate for dogs. What about all o that caramel that sticks to the teeth. I for one would never do that. Chocolate may be deadly to those dogs.

your auntie sounds nice because she wants her dogs to enjoy the things we enjoy, but it is not good for the dogs at all. chocolate can kill a dog, just like a a small cup of coffee. please for the sake of us all doglovers and those dogs, tell her to stop. good luck, and good for you. it takes a lot of guts to go against your aunt and her dog training exercises.
