i dont think it bad for just a few cheerios, but i was wondering if anyone elses dog does this sort of thing... like if it is on the floor they just let the dog get it.....??

also i should add the dog is trained to not take food from the toddler, unless it is a dog bisquit that i give to her to give the dog...but she will pick up what lands on the floor...

All my life I have had a dog. We have always given them table scraps(unless it was something that would irritate their stomachs like sauerkraut) and yes they all have always been the crumb catchers in my home. And they follow my grand children faithfully when it involves food. And I thank God for the four legged crumb catches, as I don't own a dust buster.LOL

I have to admit that I don't like this practice. It encourages the animals to hang around the table or try to grab food from children when they think they're not looking. A while back, we visited a relative who allowed her dog to do this and one time the dog snatched a sandwich right out of my daughter's hand. She wasn't feeding the dog or anything. The dog just took it.

That's what the vacuum is for... Don't let the kid wander around w/ food, unless you want to teach the dog that it's okay to take food from a kid..

My dogs are floor cleaners, plate cleaners and pan washers. (Don't yell at me folks. I wash them after!)

If it is something that won't hurt them, then why not. If it will hurt them, like chocolate or onions, then I don't let them.
