Although it probably true that I would be in the confessional too long, that's not the reason I don't believe in God. Frankly, and in short, I think that belief is God is a delusion that is only kept out of the DSM because it is a popular delusion. There is no evidence for God that can't be attributed to natural phenomenon and coincidence. I like to think that I am a intelligent and rational person, so it makes no sense for me to believe in superstitious delusions.

No, I hesitate to believe in god because there is absolutely no evidence to support the existence of such a god.

I think your question belies your attitude toward non-god-believers like myself. I think you think that we behave badly more than the average god-believer. If this is the case, I would point out the fact that proportionally, atheists represent a much lower percentage of the incarcerated population than do christians.

Oh, this argument again! How nice!

Listen. Please. Being an Atheist means I don't believe in God. It's not a license to go out and do tons of stupid stuff and not take accountability for it. I don't believe in God. Period. That's it, and that's all. I'm still very faithful to my wife, who I love with all my heart. I still have fears. I still have values. The only way you'd ever know I'm an Atheist is because I just told you so. I don't hesitate when it comes to belief or lack thereof in God--actually, my hesitation came when I was losing faith many many years ago. Once I accepted that God is imaginary, I never looked back. You don't pray to Zeus, do you?

Would it kill you folks to drop the condescending attitude when addressing us?

Oh that is so funny. See most atheists and such folk believe in doing good to other people. We have very high morals for the most part. We don't believe that saying sorry to a giant sky daddy will make it better.

Actually, I think it's the masturbating priests on the other side of the confessional that hold up the line.

I am going to assume this question has to do with your own heart. Truth inside the humor I suppose :) in the depths of all our hearts there will be doubt, something pulling us to find reason that fits what we want rather than what God wants. Our will naturally moves from him. It is truly the heart that separates us from God and no other reason. So in a way we will find a path that brings us to what we want to believe over what is Gods truth. We might see something in what we believe to be Gods truth that we don't like so we move from it and find an answer that will make us comfortable rather than resting upon that felling and asking God to show us where we might have a lesion to be learned. If we personally turn to the bible and not what man or a Church says, and we pray with Jesus this feelings that move us from God well be shown to us and God truth through scripture will fit properly. It is a hard thing to do but like I said I think in your question you have shown a piece of your heart that needs to know this. There is always truth in humor :) If this is the case pray and read the bible and allow God to show you the way rather than trying to find it your self, if you God on your own you will only get lost. God is the only one that knows the true path to truth.

A skeptic is one because of there heart and no other reason.

That's preposterous. No, I wouldn't be in the confessional very long, because unlike Christians, I don't think everything I do should induce guilt.

Good one. In all honesty, though no. I do know people who say they believe in God, and a specific faith, but don't try to follow it as they don't want to/feel they can't live up to it. But I would think that most Atheists don't believe in God, apart from their moral views.

You tell me? Why are you skeptical about the fact that your god doesn't exist? Why are you skeptical about the existence of any of the gods of the ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians? Why are you skeptical of the existence of the gods and spirits of the Pagans? Why are you skeptical of the fact that Jesus taught about loving one another, about sacrifice being wrong, about finding the treasures of heaven within yourself.
Why do you ignore the words of Jesus, preferring to worshiping the Bible, which was created by men less wise than Jesus? It sure seems like you've placed the leaders of your church above your god, worshiping their dogma, instead of the words of the one whom you profess was sent by your god as a messenger.

Not all theists are Catholics. As far as I know, Catholics are the only religious group that goes to confession.

Theists are no more moral than atheists, so your question is merely an insult, the same ol' tired insult that all atheist are amoral, and all theists are paragons of virtue.

Thanks for the 2 pts.
