Okay so I'm a 20 year old white male, who will be heading to China, in a year, or two, for a 6 month stay. I will be going with a friend of a Chinese woman who's married to a friend of my family. She says because I'm white, and if I respect the Chinese people, and their culture,(Which I do very greatly) I will be treated like a king by the women there. Is she right?

Its clear a lot of ignorant westerners have visited China, the people are kind, hospitable and helpful. They make fun of arrogant Americans who think everyone should bow down and kiss their butts for them. The behavior of a large number of foreigners is disgusting in China.

You are respectful of their culture and they will like you and welcome you.

I wonder how Americans would treat rich foreigners who come to their country and call all their woman whores, and insult the women by "trying to buy" little school girls and any other american women? Waving money in their face and calling them whores and asking how much ?

My friend is married to a chinese lady and hardly a day goes by without some oaf from a western country asking her "how much"?

Its disgusting, be prepared to apologize constantly for these foreign pigs that visit China and insult everyone, get drunk and throw up in public, pass out on the sidewalks etc

As a white, you will be treated differently in china. Some of the people around you will treat you with respect others might not care and just act normally. But usually you do see a lot more care when an asian person in china is interacting with a caucasian.

Yeah, but you'll also be taken advantage for the full 6 months that you're here. Being white makes you walk around with a SCAM ME sign on your head.

You'll have to fight for the right cab fare every time you need to go somewhere. You'll have to fight with the vendors or a restaurant every time you buy something because they will charge you more for things or for items you never ordered.
You won't be able to walk down a street without some dirty bastard trying to sell you something. And worst of all you'll probably get robbed. Not by young men in their 20s, but by little old ladies who pretend to be helpless. (China has the most aggressive scam artists, and criminals in the world. Far worse than even the poorest cities like Vietnam)

China is fun for about 6 months like you're stay, but after that it's pretty much all down hill. The second half of the year you just start to realize how everyone is trying to scam you, how rude everyone is, and stupid and worthless the Chinese cops are.

You'll also realize that people here lack common sense and the service industry just doesn't exist, but you'll notice these things during the first week. You'll just get really sick of it at the 6th month.

Anyways, I think the duration of your stay is perfect. Just be aware of everything i've said and watch your back. A little old lady hit my friend in the back of the head with a brick after he refused to give her change. He was knocked out, and the worst part is that it happened on the Bund in Shanghai, which is also one of the busiest tourist streets. The Cops did absolutely nothing.

If you have the money, women anywhere in the world will treat u like a KING.
If not, then keep a smiling face, show your respect to the locals, you will still be treated well, i mean, very well.

I'm sure it won't hurt if you have a deep affinity of their culture, and don't try to butt in, or 'act American,' they'll love you. Heck, if you really woo the girls there, they might give you incentive to stay. A Chinese friend of mine had told me the Chinese guys were less than stellar in terms of household equlaity (as life partners) so thats the reason they were sent abroad to colleges in Japan (where I studied abroad).

unfortunately they do..they treat you much nicely than their chinese brothers and sisters..that how sad ppl are...

they treat my like **** since i'm chinese looking but when i start speaking english..they treat me like i'm some kind of a celebrity..it's shameful...

this makes us chinese..the majority look like inferior slaves..

you respect the culture and china then ppl will respect you..and yes..you might receive really good services and treatments...and maybe..you get some brainless chicks falling for you..but i won't 'cause i'm different

enjoy your stay in china

ps...it's the same for all asian countries etc korea and japan

sad

Anyone who has money will be treated like a king there. It's the same way in neighboring countries- Thailand, Vietnam.

Laowai!

You are a Laowai! You will be an outsider in China and you will never be able to forget it.

People will stare and point at you.

They will mock you behind your back.

They will call you Laowai.

They will insult you with Catcalls of "hellooo!"

Women will want you to see if what they say about waigouren men is true or not.

People will make false assumptions about you.

I suggest you do some research on how foreigners themselves who live in China percieve how they are treated here. There are many excellent expat websites detailing the experiences of Laowai living in China....some are positive...many are negative.

There are some people in China who will give you respect for being "White" and treat you "like a king"

Others will treat you like trash for the same reason.

Tread carefully around both kinds of people.

Do not misread normal everyday hospitality and friendliness as being a sign that you are wonderful just because you are a big nosed outsider.

And do not come to China with the idea of your superiority to Chinese people...some foreigners do and make the rest of us look bad. http://www.chinatattler.com

Yes, you will be very popular especially with the Chinese women. The women loves foreigners especially those with lots of money!! Be careful and don't be so naive when dealing with these women. They are very cunning and materialistic.
