Cats are solitary by nature and usually live alone in the wild. We are the ones who keep small herds of them (myself included). Your cat will get used to having you gone a lot and will probably sleep a lot during the day and be ready for your undivided attention in the evening. It sounds like you're doing everything right.
As for your HUSBAND -- unless he's allergic or something, another cat doesn't create much more work than one. He needs to chill.
I have 6 cats -- not a good idea, but there were a couple of strays, the cat I inherited from my mom, and so on. It wasn't intentional. My husband hasn't always been thrilled with the new additions and still complains half heartedly sometimes. He loves them all -- even the ones that we got when we didn't intend to.
Also, make sure your kitty is spayed. There is nothing more obnoxious than a female cat in heat and you don't want to risk having her get out and come back with several furry buns in the oven!
It sounds like you've done a great job with her.

Hi, I'm a vet tech, and my first answer was to tell you to get another kitty, but then I read what you said about your husband snuffing that idea. She will eventually settle down, cats are remarkably self reliant and it's not like you are going to be gone for 12 or more hours a day. She will most likely spend the day sleeping, as cats are nocturnal anyway.
Hope this helped to relieve your concern. : )

Our cats have the same problem. If you have a lunch break try to go home and visit your cat do this for a few weeks. It can be hard on a cat because they get used to seeing you all day. Just try that and if you can't do that just spend as much time with your cat when you come home from work.

I understand where you're coming from but face facts... cats & kittens are so independent I'd say you'll be out of the house every bit of 40 to 50 seconds and you'll be out of his/her mind. Just a fact about those felines.
They'll be fine... and you really know that, don't you.

have confidence it or not, i in my opinion bypass over the dogs and cat from the Christmas image card. I say have confidence it or not because of the fact curiously i'm the only one among my friends and fam that omits their pets. "Roofus says have a Woofy Christmas!" ... heavily effed up they're.
