I was put in the mental ward of a hospital in CA 6 yrs ago for a suicide attempt, have spent the last several years rebuilding my life. I'm wondering if my past stay in the looney bin will prevent me from legally purchasing a handgun??? Anyone know about this?

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aNW3T

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

I agree that something must be completed as hostile to no longer something being completed. a countrywide information base is quite threatening, interior the long-term. If the government might enforce the guidelines that already on the books, then there may be no rationalization for this finished subject rely being reported immediately. Canada experienced registration accompanied heavily by using confiscation. a central authority, rather ours, shouldn't in any respect have the ability to take the voters weapons away. the 2nd modification is for the voters to be waiting to maintain the government from transforming into tyrannical.

Yes.. Sorry but "suicide attempt" will not allow you to carry a firearm.
Suicide is still a criminal offense.
______

Let's put in in simple layman's terms:

If someone knowingly sells you a firearm and has knowledge of your mental issue. They will be held accountable if you inflict danger to yourself or others.
_______

Reply to COPPER OF ????? YEARS

Suicide is taking one's own life. Suicide and attempted suicide no longer are crimes in California. However, it is a felony for someone deliberately to aid, advise, or encourage another to commit suicide.

Please see link below.
Knowing this. I doubt that anybody would sell a firearm too. Unless they want to be placed under the jail.

By the way .. I'm NO COP. And I know the LAW ALSO !!!!!

most states felony conviction charges are what is looked at, and if you have had problems with people recently that they think you may be a danger too if you owned a gun. likely it sounds you were not charged with anything and it was along time ago, so i wouldnt worry to much about it. likely they will wait for a few days to see if you change your mind about the purchase before allowing you to get it though, just in case!

Who "put" you into the hospital? Was it a court decision or self-admittance? If it was the law, you may have a problem getting the gun permit. Also depends on the questions asked on the application.

You would have to contact the sheriff in the county where you live. Generally a person has to be certified insane and a danger to himself or others, at the time he applies, not for all of his life.

You're not going to get one, sorry. If you lie about it on the registration form and it's discovered you'll be charged with a felony.

Unless there is a police record of this event, I can't see how it would show up on a back ground check. If there is a police record I really don't know if it will effect you, call your local police and ask them, that's what they do for a living.
good luck
