I know there's lots of sites and books that explain how to make money with personal blogs, but for anyone who has a personal blog that does make money, how much per hour would you say you earn on average considering the fact you have to ad new content, check if the links are working, get new links, stay up to date with new trends, etc. etc?

I believe very few people actually earn big money from their blogs if talking Google Adsense and I would not recommend setting up a blog just for that purpose.
If you use your blog to write about a specific topic you can use the blog to build your subscriber list, promote products related to your blog or create traffic to your website.

Almost all blogs use a content management system like Wordpress or Typepad or something similar.

Blogs like Gizmodo, or Jalopnik or Daily KOS have huge readerships and they have a staff posting content in addition to the site owner/manager.

The truth is that if you are doing a site for the money, it probably won't make any money.

Most blogs make money because the blog writer is passionate and create fresh content themselves that people read and share with others. Many have whole communities that help add content as well.

I don't know any bloggers who do it for the money exclusively.I know they have an interest they want to write about and the blog grew from there. The monetize it because it helped cover bandwidth, etc.

One bonus to a blog is it gets your great ideas out there to be tested and see if there is an interest.
