well personally, I argue for the sake of arguing and bettering myself.
however, you make a good point, that the middle ground in R&S is rather nonexistent:everyone is either very religious or hardcore atheist.
i think the Catholics argue because of rightousness, and the atheists argue out of desperation: desperation that a human could be so delusional.

I am not desperate and so I will not argue with you, I am only here to ask and answer questions. I do however currently work for a company very similar to NASA but in truth I work to better what they are attempting.

i feel that what it boils down to is that we never really get to express our feelings towards others about our beliefs and/or we are not willing to go out and hear what others have to say as to why they believe the way they do, here on R&S it is a chance to express, argue, agree, or disagree, but i do have to say i have learned soooo much from everyone here believers and non and i have met alot of friends..
