Is it just for the US leaders and friends to make money? After all..they all became very wealthy AFTER these wars.

IF you truly believe that the US soldier in the last 50 years have died for our freedom then why don't you join the US military in some capacity. Why don't you? Because YOU don't believe that this is true to that extent.

I am glad that you asked that question. You have a right to ask that question because the very people you say died for nothing died to give you that right.

Had the United States, Britain, France and other allies had not defeated Hitler you would be speaking German now and would be raising your had to salute a German flag and we all know what was in the middle of that flag.

Of course you would not be able to say what you just said about the German Army because there would be spies that would tell the central government and you would be eventually shot and killed.

Of course if you were not blue eyed and blond you would be in a concentration camp being used as a test animal of some sort. You have heard of the concentration camps that the Germans had haven't you?

I am proud that you have that right and no one can arrest you for your thoughts or for saying them out loud even to put your thoughts on Yahoo or any other media you select to use a platform.

You see I served in the military that give you that right, along with so many other men and women that believe in something as oppose to just spouting off at the mouth like a person with diarrhea and no medicine to stop the flow

There are those that do something about a problem and then there are those that talk about a problem with no solution.

Those that served before, with and after me are problem solvers and take action so that guys like you can have the freedom to do what you do.

There could be those that make money during and after a war, but then we are a capitalist society.

U.S. Army Retired

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

World War ll is i think the only war in history when it was proved to be as justified at the end as it was at the start. However I do see where you are coming from. Our Country has long and proud history of accepting those trying to escape injustice and persecution and for many years out wise aand noble government led us rightly or wrongly along that path the altenative was that they were coming here to university and would return to their own emerging countries. Again the government led us to believe this for a long time. them political correctness came in and it took a fairly brave person to query this especialy as thaey had no way of checking the figures given out in a completely dishonest way by succesive governments. The results of this we now have a divided multi-cultural society which has been foisted on us by deceit. We did not vote for it. We are now landed with a problem of total mistrust of our beloved and wise leaders and a certain party B.N.P is using this to it's advantage by street capaigns which target the problems of say one particular street which will have different problem to perhaps the next street which is also targeted in the same way. This leads people to believe that B.N.P is speaking for them, but actually causes more and more distrust within already divided communities. So the answer is that your father did fight for something worthwhile and secured it for the likes of you aand me as do the servicemen and women of to-day. However they are constantly let down by the government and the white population who on the whole are happy to accept a few foreigners in their midst if only to add some spice to life have been betrayed. and now have something if they had been allowed to have their say would have wisely rejected insstictively realising the tensions it would bring

Actually, Sweet Pea, it's not such a stupid question.
Ever since World War II, the giant U.S. military-industrial complex (which Eisenhower warned us about) realized how profitable 'war' could be. So all the politicians were bought up, pricey lobbyists were hired, and special interest groups were formed to promote and encourage more 'war'. Thus, the U.S. became involved in the Korean Conflict; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the Cold War; Vietnam and Desert Storm so that corporations like McDonnell-Douglass, Lockheed-Martin and Sikorsky could boost their sagging profits after years or peace time. A new 'war' was necessary to rake in billions more profits from easily- impressionable American taxpayers, AND to let two 'newcomers' to the government's war trough share in those billions: the Carlyle Group and Halliburton both have direct ties to the Bush-Cheney White House.
Anyone who believes that we're "in" Iraq to defend our country against "terrorists" from some unknown "evil empire" is mistaken; anyone who assumes we're "in" Iraq to bring democracy to the Iraqis is naive; anyone who thinks we're "in" Iraq to establish peace in the Middle East is gullible.
We're "in" Iraq for OIL and WAR PROFITEERING - at any cost, even the cost of 675,000 Iraqi lives and 3,700 U.S. soldiers. Our government lied to Congress, duped the American people, and conned U.S. troops into believing we are conducting a 'war' there for honorable purposes, when - in fact - we are "there" only to make a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power brokers wealthier and more powerful.
Adolph Hitler once said: "How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."
Sinclair Lewis predicted: " When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross."
Not since World War II has Congress used its sole power to declare 'war'. Not since World War II has the United States ever been the target of another nation's military.
Indeed, 'war' creates wealth for the already-wealthy. But, as the Dali Lama said recently in an interview with 'Ode' magazine: "The use of the power of the gun is a sign of weakness." -RKO- 08/26/07

They haven't all died for nothing, that's not true, but too many have in fact---if you include politics and ill-advised strategy. But many died saving friends---and even in a useless war, that is NOT for "nothing".

While I don't like the way you phrased your question, I am reminded of what General Rommel said to some British soldiers he had just defeated, and it reminded me of George Bush:

Rommel said to them:

"You have fought like lions but you have been lead by donkeys".

Not every general is an Eisenhower or a Patton and not every President is an FDR or a Churchill.

Plenty of donkeys out there to waste soldiers' lives either on the battlefield or in planning the strategy.

And the military DOES NOT give you your freedom. You get that by how you VOTE!!!

They have died so that we have the freedom that you and I enjoy.

I am too old to join the military. But I am thankful for those who have and who will, such as my father during wwII and my nephew now in Iraq. I don't think the military is for everyone. But for those who feel it their calling I pray Gods protection on them.

Make sure you remember to always support our troops even if you don't agree with what they are doing. They don't have a choice on where they go. On the otherhand you don't have to support our president that put them where they are....we should cut our losses and take the idot out of the white house, even if he only has 1 year left.
