God is a part of you, in you, you are made in his image, so why do you look to the bible for answeres instead of inside yourself?

CJ hun I am more of a christian than you will ever be, because I am not hateful, I have a heart, and God speaks to me in that way, If living by the Bible will turn me into a rude and hatfule person then no, I will not live by the Bible. I will listen to what God puts in my heart.

You are welcome to believe what you want to believe.
Saying that Christians believe in the Bible is like saying that you believe in the phone book because you use it to look up numbers.
The Bible is a Communication, a Reference. Like a phone book or any other reference work people place confidence in the source of the communication, not in the communication itself.
For example, I am not writing these words. I am pressing buttons on a keyboard, the keyboard is transmitting information through a series of processors and eventually displaying it on your computer screen. While I am the source of this communication, the communication itself is indirect.
God is only inside of those who choose to ask God in them. God presents himself as the Holy Ghost, the comforter, the teacher who gives understanding of scriptures.
God's primary communication in scripture is indirect because not everyone invites God into their hearts. People who have not invited God into their hearts have a reference in the indirect communication of scriptures and/or witnesses to Christ.

The Bible says in the Old and New Testaments "that anyone who hates is a follower of Satan". There are tons of Christians out there that only pick out their favorite lines and leave the the rest of the Bible alone. IF one follows ALL of the Bible then God is number ONE , Jesus is number Two, and the Holy Ghost is number Three. And the Holy Ghost is not in everyone. They have to believe to the point of not sinning (the best they can) and willing to help others. I have heard some say they can sin all they want, as long as they confess it and it is not a sin anymore; but these people don't even read the Bible.
I do not have more faith in the Bible than God. I have faith that the Bible is true (except for the King James Bible) for I have prayed and asked God if it was and He said yes. How could anyone have faith in God or know anything about God? IF we did not have the Bible?

Cindy, that was beautiful...and a question I've often asked myself.
I had always tried to justify why I thought the Bible was wrong by using history, contradictions, etc...but lately, I just say that there is no reason for me to justify myself. I follow what my heart says, even if it's a direct contradicion to the Bible, and I think it would do many Christians good to do the same. I always felt a need to say why I disagreed with the Bible, but now I just say, "I don't need to justify my position--the Bible is just wrong!"
Christians are taught not to question, or they will go to Hell. They have been taught this since they were little, so they don't even know WHY they believe without question anymore. The Church invented this to keep members, and it works fantastically--they wanted blind followers and they got them. Instead of listening to their heart--the ONLY source for an answer that is completely infallible--they let someone who wrote a book nearly two thousand years ago decide their thoughts for them.
If the Bible told Christians to jump off a bridge, they would. And that's a sad, sad fact that they know is true. But they'll never admit it.
If all Christians were like you, Cindy, then the world would be a much more loving place. YOU are a true Christian, and it's people like you that give me hope for this planet. If only people would follow your example instead of questioning it...
Thank you. You have my love and blessings.

I think there is a big clarification that needs to be made that might explain why Christians rely so much on the Bible and it's from a very practical standpoint.
As a Christian, trying to go without learning the Bible for my Christian walk is like me trying to do Human Resources without an understanding of Labor and Employment Law!! To me, the Bible is the essential training manual to understand God. That's why, when I wanted to be worthy of working in HR, I went to school. Sure, I could have studied Employment and Labor Law on my own, but by having a teacher, she was able to help me to comprehend and to learn when to apply the HR principles correctly and effectively. And that is why I go to a preacher that I can trust to help me to learn how to apply the scriptures in my life.
Does that mean that you can't even do a simple task without consulting the Bible for each and every thing you do? No, but I've found so many times in my life that as I encounter a situation, a scripture will come to mind, and it sheds light on the situation.
So, do I have more faith in the Bible, no. But I've learned that I can trust the concepts and the principles of the Bible to be from God.

Good question. Because the Bible is God's words, and you can't separate them one from the other. When we trust in the Bible we are trusting in God. On the other hand when we put our confidence in ourselves and look for our own answers we will always go astray, because the heart of man is basically wicked. When we have two true and unchangeable things (God and His Word) why would we trust something totally unreliable such as our own thinking?

The Bible answers this question
Romans 10:17 So then Faith cometh by Hearing , and Hearing by the Word of God.
The Bilbe is the Word of God. It is how God speaks to us today and his word will never pass away and never changes.
Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for , the evidence of things not seen Hebrews 11:1
But without Faith it is impossible to please him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them which diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6
To have Faith in the Bible is To have Faith in God and His word.

the only problem i have with the bible is that so many people pick and choose which parts they want to follow.
the bible is a religious history book. christians should use it, but the very definition of christian is christ like. jesus stopped people from being stoned, and yet some will use the bible to justify capital punishment.
maybe the reason so many people are turned off by organized religion is because it's followers contradict themselves so often.
just my thoughts.

"Trust your heart." "Follow your feelings." This is what the world advises. But Jesus said to the contrary that the heart is the most deceitful thing, never to be trusted. At the same time His Words stand forever unchanged. This may help explain why Christians would rather believe God's Word than their own emotions.

We read the Bible because we are commanded by God to know His Word. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
I know God's voice and I listen and obey. The gospel of Jesus the Christ our Savior we are commanded to know. Read your Bible.
