Humans are still in our infancy of the knowledge we will one day posess. Think about it. My grandparents grew up when there wasn't even television.

Don't you know the idea of thinking 100% for oneself is a misnomer? Why is this so? Because humans are always processing information, and it's a matter of what information you choose to believe or not believe.
So why do people STILL choose to believe in a supreme being despite the propoganda that athiests and secular humanists put out there? Because everyone has a spiritual aspect to their persona. Some choose to deny it, others embrace it.
For many people, religion/spirituality has been a positive thing, something that makes their lives worth living. This is something that one has to decide for themselves. If you can do without religion, fine, but others like it, and that's fine, too.
Surely you can't deny that expressions of spirituality has been behind many of the great works of art, literature, and is a integral part of many cultures. Yes, some politicians and others use and abuse religion, but it doesn't make religion or spirituality itself bad...it makes the manipulative person bad. People do the same thing with sexuality, too...so do I hear you talking against sexual expression? lol.
While it's true that some people have abused religion for sociopolitical purposes, far more people have embraced religion and spirituality and used it for the betterment of humanity. It has been a stabilizer and civilizer for many cultures.
Who says that people don't think for themselves when it comes to their individual spirituality? A great many people do come to form their beliefs by thinking them over very careful, by years of study, and yes, by meditation and prayer and sometimes with doubt and rejection of one belief system or another.
I wonder...do you think people should live without love? without compassion? without joy? without a sense of purpose or hope? Well, for many worldwide, religion and spirituality gives them those things...and there is NOTHING wrong with that!
You are free to not believe in a Supreme Being if you want, but as long as the person with beliefs is not hurting you personally in any way, shape or form, why would you be so cruel as to take away the thing that makes someone else feel happy and complete?

People believe in many. Thats what they do. Some believe in evolution other believe that they are not hypnotized by the media. Some also believe everything the politicians say. Some also believe that religions have been "proven" wrong. Some believe that there is not God and they came from a pool of chemicals. But you know, thats what people do! they would believe in the weirdest things!
The truth is that there is a God. And some people believe in this truth. Others deny it and believe in other things.

Here might be the answer:
Lets puts it this way, although we certaintly know that all religions have some sort of flaws in thems, such as repeated stories, un imaginable mericles that are hard to be proven; however, religion or faith in God give us humans a sense of security and hope for a better future. Even though we humans sometimes seem to be egonistics, deep inside us, we are longing and searching for the meaning of life, security, and a vision for a better future.
Hope I have helped

Grasping reality is hard for the human mind. The truth isn't always so pretty and nice, so people like to comfort themselves with the blanket of religion. In times of distress, the idea of someone being there with you, over your shoulder is comforting to say the least. It gives life a meaning and a purpose and it puts us in our place. It also gives them comfort being in the majority and being with other people who believe. But then again, its not necessarily true. No matter how much we evolve or how advanced we get, there will always be faith in something more.
And people say that I don't understand religion.

It's not merely a reason of not thinking for one's self - but the fact is many do not ask merely HOW we're here (science), but WHY are we here (philosophy/theology). So long as there are philosophers in the world, there will be religions.

Sweet Pea you are so right. I don't believe in religion I believe in ones belief method. Like I believe in the Lord God and he is real and he is of no religion. Christianity is a belief of which I choose to believe it is of no religion. God Bless!
