It seems like a disproportionate number of movies, on TV this weekend, based on the USMC. Could it be an attempt, by the US government, to incite patriotism in the hearts of their young men and women, hoping to increase the number of new recruits?
Or perhaps they're just trying to make the inevitable, upcoming draft less disagreeable.

I think that you have made some valid observations.

There have been a lot of movies about the Marines ever since WWII. They have the best puplicity and know how to use it. Hollywood likes the Marine image because that is what the public (that often dont know much about the military) sees as thier image of the military.
The Navy is probably the next best at movies.
The Army is usually used for comedies or anti-government movies.
The Air Force is usually used for B-Movies.
Its nothing new.
No, there is no draft and there wont be anytime soon unless something like China and Russia decide to declare war together.

The Marines usually meet their quotas because they are a small unit---they only need to recruit about 32,000 people a year. The Army and Navy has to offer things like cash bonuses and dropping their standards.
So I'd say your theory doesn't really hold up.
And besides, if it's a really true movie about the Marines with a cold honest look at what its like and what might happen to you, chances are that wouldn't make such a great recruiting movie. You don't see commercials about "Be All That You Can Be" (army commercial, not marines) for instance, showing wounded, or guys becoming pyschotic or depressed.
War is not a pretty thing. Perhaps necessary, perhaps at times truly heroic, but not a pretty "picture" like in Hollywood.
I did like Clint Eastwood's film however. Not sure that would make you want to go to Iwo Jima though.
And don't rag on me, armchair patriots, I'm a veteran.
thanks for reading, don't join the Marines, go to college first, then decide if you want a military career.

Neither. There will be no draft, if one happened there would be millions of people in peace marches in Washington and they do not want that. The government does not control the media. There are just a lot of war movies made in the last 80 years. The older a movie becomes the cheaper it is for networks to buy showing rights for it.

It is highly unlikely that the liberal ran media moguls would cooperate with the government in such a thing.
As far as the draft goes, it ain't going to happen. Also take a look at who has tried to get the draft going. Hint, don't look at the Republicans.

I love watching the old war movies made in the 40's and 50's. I grew up watching them. I'd much rather watch these old films then say Flags of our Fathers.
I thought that film was very depressing and besides it did nothing to honor the Marine corp.

The USMC doesnt suffer from any problems in recruiting. Should you want to enlist in the USMC you actually have to wait in line.
