I have been having very bad mid- back pain. Hurts when i twist or bend to the eft or right. Feels concentrated right right in the middle of my back. It hurts really bad when i tuck my chin or put my head down to far it feels like im pulling the heck of the spot where it hurts. We have really cheap beds here. So i could use any tips to folding a blanket or a certain place to put a pillow under my back or any everyday things i could use to remedy this pain. It hurts so bad during the night i cant roll over. Please someone give a soldier some tips. i can walk around but i think i got it from jumping off a helicopter alittle to much the other day. It was on the ground about 4 feet up. thanks to all .

Thanks to you my friend!! You guys are all awesome! I was a medic in the Army and we were able to dispense some meds from the aid station. I know most also have a PA. I would think they have all kinds of meds that would do you well. Some mentioned prednisone and that is a good drug. Sounds like your having muscle spasms back there. Until those clear your not gonna heal well. They may need to give something for pain and valium or another muscle relaxant like skelaxin or flexoril. Once you get the spasms under control, the anti-inflammatory drugs can work their magic. Go see the doc!
I wish you well!!!

Let me start by telling you Thank You, for everything you are doing!!! Thank You! lol
Anyway, you may have aggravated you sciatic nerve with all of the jumping and twisting the other day. If you can try icing the sorest area for 15min at a time, rest on your back with your knees bent and with a pillow or rolled blanket under you knees. For pain relief, take 1 Tylenol extra strength and 1 Aleve at a time, both ingredients from these are found in most prescription pain medications, but this way you get a dose that aleves your pain without effecting your mind.
My son is in Afghanistan right now and he has back problems as well, he ordered a "bunk size" mattress cushion for his bunk because of type of beds you guys have to sleep on. You may be able to see the medics as well, there is a drug called Prednisone, it is a steroid, but not the type some would think. It will help to ease you pain, whether it be muscle, disc, or sciatic nerve. You don't have to take it for very long, and the side effects are minimal. You may feel restless and usually it makes you really hungry, but nothing that you couldn't put up with for a couple of weeks.
You also mentioned that you have pain when you roll over at night, try to be mindful of your hips, you may even want to pull up on you pant leg to lift your hips as you turn over, that way you are not working/pulling on those spine muscles as much.

Good Luck to you, and I hope you feel better soon!!
Thanks again! We appreciate You, and keep your head down!!

Thank you for everything you do, my family appreciates it. We are former military as well my husband is a disabled veteran from the First gulf war.

I would recommend laying flat without a pillow. Or try putting your pillow under your knees which will leave your back flatter take some of the pressure off your disks. If ibuprophen is available I would take that as well to reduce swelling and inflamation.

The other important thing is to report it, to who ever is in charge of your healthcare and medical care. It's important because if it becomes aggravated over time they need to know when you hurt it, etc. Especially if it continues. If God forbid you should have problems down the line you need a record of injury if you should ever have problems and need to file a claim with the VA. It's important to keep your medical injuries reported in case you have any problems down the line.

For example our neighbor had problems with his back from an injury during his Korea service, because there was record of the injury he was able to get compensation pay and the injury treated when it was aggravated recently. They paid for the surgery and gave him higher compensation during his downtime because it was originally service connected injury. It made a huge difference to his family who would have been out of pay from his civilian job during the recover time.

Thank you again for your service, words can not express how grateful we are. Hope you are better soon.

I can only imagine how bad your bed is. If it's possible for you to place a board under the mattress that will give you better support. See the doctor and ask for anti inflammatory medications. This will start relieving you of so much pain. Place a large towel in hot water, wring it out and place it on your back for fifteen minutes. This is going to help relax the muscles. If you have any analgesic cream rub that on your back.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

my prayers are with you,

First.....THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO....jumping off of helicopters and everything!!!! WE LOVE YOU!

Next, can you not go to the Medic? Ask for some prednisone. It will help with the swelling and it works FAST. It's kind of a hassle to take, because you have to take 3 tablets at one time for 3 days, 2 tablets a time for 3 days, etc. weaning yourself down, but it sure does work.

When I have back pain, sleeping with a pillow under my knees helps, because it takes the strain off of your back when you lie down.

Advil, Motrin, or any other ibuprofen will help as well!

Good luck, and thanks for all the hard work you're doing out there.
