Wright Pat is an active Air Force base. Planes land and take off from there many times a day. When you DON'T see military planes flying in the area come back and ask a question.

The pilot is probably doing training missions (called touch and go's) and the plane is stationed at Wright-Patterson.
This is a common occurrence at every Air Force Base.

Wright Pat is a research base, that would be my guess. I lived there as a child and I remember that a lot of Air Force projects were developed there

They fly actual missions and training missions out of Wright Patterson.
Those planes may just be practicing touch-and-go landings or they might just be getting back from Bagram, Afghanistan. You can never know.

It is a military transport jet C-5, and it is lots of them not one, and they are assigned to logistical support from the 88th Air Base Wing for military operations at home and overseas.

They are probably practicing landings. The aircraft may have several crews on board that need training and using 1 aircraft is cheaper (only need to have one instructor / fuel parts etc for one aircraft) then using multiple aircraft. Also depends on the type of aircraft as to what it may be doing. (calibrations testing etc.)
