What if we are the "rats" in his scientific experiments?
We say these rats serve a purpose. Thus, we would serve a purpose.

Yes, God put us here to spread the "Good News" or Gospel....
We are all on this earth for a short time, no one has been promised to live forever. It's sad about the miner's, but it goes to show you one fact, and that is life can be taken from us at any time....that's why we have to come to terms with where we want to spend eternity now while we are alive...None of us know when our last day is...for some it will be this very night...

I do believe we are here for a reason and that is for us to learn what we need to know and understand. I do not believe it was God's doing to trap and kill the miners. I do think we need thank God for allow us to be here for whatever purpose we are here for, especially if we accomplish our goal.
Peace

We all die. We don't know when or where. Hopefully the miners used their special purpose while they were alive. Sh*t happens and if we are in the way we die. That is just how it goes. My heart goes out to the friends and family of those who died but it was their time to go. It doesn't make sense but that is just the way it is.

Definitely, God has a reason and purpose for each one of us.
We are all here to glorify God and to praise Him. Many work in dangerous jobs, and are aware of it, we all face danger, by accident and we give thanks daily to God for bringing us through the day, as I would think the miners and their families did. It was their time to go home to the Father, and ours will come in God's time .

God put us here to glorify Him and to enjoy Him forever. The reason the miners were trapped and died is because the rich mine owner and the Bush administration collaborated to gut the standards for mine safety. If the miners put their faith in Christ for forgiveness for sin, they are enjoying God right now!

The miners who were trapped serve as a reminder of the words of our Lord Jesus.
Luke 13:1 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."
People think that if they are in good health that they can go on living their lives however they want to and then maybe if they get old and sick, then they will turn to God and ask to be saved.
Jesus tells us that everyone needs to repent and be saved now for tomorrow is promised to no one. Click on the Get Saved button @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/ for more information.

This question is absurd. However as I love to debate I will take the bad guy side as you wanted and say Yes they have been rewarded in heaven.
They had all fulfilled their purpose in life as God sees it and He rewarded them by healing them of their worldly woes and taking them to His bosom.
But then maybe they just had dangerous jobs that kill many more than this every year. They were caught in an untenable situation and succumbed to the forces of nature. As happens all over the world.
An example more than 3000 people die everyday because they are Christians, and that ain't no accident.

Death is almost always tragic, yet I believe that we are all here for a purpose.
What artist paints a picture and hangs it in a closet?
What writer doesn't want his words of prose read and enjoyed by others?
Since I believe that God created us then I must also believe there is a purpose.
