wow. i hope that some people will have their hearts softened a little.
i seem to remember that jesus said to love those that hate you. to do good to those that curse you. the sermon on the mount was all about love.
i think that when he said he was here to bring a sword he meant to the israelites. that some would believe he was the messiah and others would not. he was kind and loving until the very end of his life. how can his followers be any less?
(((pangel))) don't worry about what some people say. we know you are a good person.
bright blessings

One can only be disrespected if one let themselves be. Respect is learnt by one who understands that simply having respect for themselves is all one needs to rise above what you feel.
Let me put it this way, how can you learn to drive a car if you never get in it to see what it feels like? So get yourself into respect and see how others might feel it!
Once I understood this then words you feel are disrespectful became like water off a ducks back to me. If you become aware of what you are saying then respect what all others said. However if what is said is not of the truth say so however you must be sure that what you say is completely true or against the trap of lies do you struggle.

I love how some Christians only quote the parts of the bible that helps them and forget the other parts, while some athiests or non-christians quote more parts that help more people. CJ says Jesus was intolerant of other beliefs, but how can that be possible if the bible says he loves everyone, which includes what they believe in, he may not agree with their belief but he probably wasnt intolerant with it

My ideas and perspectives don't always line up exactly with how other people (believers and no) think they should. My perspectives are the result of over twenty years of prayer, study, more study, listening to thousands of other points of view, and generally experiencing life and how it affects me and others. Add to this that my personality is just naturally abrasive ( chalk that up to being the youngest of seven kids and having an extremely hateful, violent, atheist father and, well, draw your own sensible conclusion) to people who are apparently and willfully ignorant, and you have the recipe for disaster in terms of how I treat people in person, or on the internet. I just answered a question about the one sin that I'm having trouble with, and my temper was the answer.
My whole attitude about tolerance and acceptance is that I'm old enough to realize that the concept is most ridiculous when attached to the nonsense of "political correctness", and following the mentality of the herd.
I'll sum it up by saying what i always say: Those who tolerate and accept everything value nothing. Not every persons point of view is valid, and after hearing so many of the same points of view, one just gets real good at spotting them---and dismissing them. For this I make no apologies to anyone.

Once again, "Pangel" the satanic verse twister. Even Satan quotes scripture in the Bible so that means nothing, it only shows that you're following Satan, your master, by taking Bible quotes out of context. The "love" you talk about isn't love if it doesn't include the verses I shared, and the countless statements of Jesus that He is the way out of eternal hell, which is where you'll end up if you reject to your dying breath that Jesus, who is God, died for your sins and rose again.
[quote]
Even if you were right..which you are not.
Pangel would still be thousands of rungs higher up the Evolutionary ladder that you.And if she looked back to see where you were you would be completely invisible...even with the Hubble Space Telescope on maximum magnification!!.

As you can already see from one of your answers, there are those who think that theirs is the only way and that everyone else is hell bound. They seem to feel that they have some kind of God-given right to attack those who have different beliefs than their own.
Bigotry in any form is always unpleasant. But bigotry in the name of Christ borders on obscenity.
Edit:
Take a look at all the thumbs-down that people who advocate tolerance and acceptance are receiving, and that pretty well answers your question.
Edit #2
Something occured to me a few minutes ago. When Jesus walked this earth, He hung around with tax collectors, prostitutes, adulterers, and Samaritans -- not exactly the creme de la creme of Israelite society. He loved those who were hated, and He healed their wounded minds, hearts, souls, and bodies. He loved them with all His Heart, and that's why they loved Him so much.
Perfect example: the woman caught in adultery. Jesus said, "Woman, where are they who condemn you? Neither do I condemn you -- go and sin no more." He didn't deny that she'd done wrong, but He didn't allow the self-righteous ones to delude themselves into thinking that they were better than she was, just because they hadn't gotten caught!
He *did* call a few people hypocrites and a brood of vipers, though. He reserved those terms for the ultra-religious Pharisees and Saducees who loved to make sure that people knew how pure and "holy" they were.
There's a moral to this story, but those who already live it won't need it, and those who need it are too blinded by their own self-righteousness to see. Sad.

i'll probably get reported for this, but cj needs to just BACK off of pangel IMMEDIATELY! there's a song we sang at church when i was a child, and the last two lines of the song were 'and they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, yes they'll know we are Christians by our love' i fail to detect a shred of love in cj's rant-pangel has shown more Christ-like attributes than a lot of folks calling themselves 'Christians' in this forum!

My account has been deleted, and the accounts of many other people who provide non-Christian perspectives on these questions have been deleted, because apparently certain "Christians" like to hit the flag button for every opinion that isn't directly in line with theirs. So much for tolerance.
"CJ's" remarks are typical. These people don't even want others to have freedom of choice or expression, because they've already decided that since they're "right," everybody else must be "wrong."
I will say his though - he IS right from the perspective of Christianity. The only problem is, that's not the only perspective! And I'm every bit as entitled to mine as he is to his.

Christianity is an absolutist belief. You are either:
1. (In the white corner) One of them,.
or
2. (In the black corner) Lost to 'Satan'.
They do not ultimately respect people who will not believe in their stories. Some are loving types regardless, many are hateful and self-righteous.

Regardless of what one believe, it goes down to seperating the posters not by their faiths, but if they are ladies & gentlemen.
Whenever someone makes obscene or inflammatory remarks, this just makes their own faith/argument look bad, and that applies to those who are similar to my faith as well.
