konam.....
Well actually if one praises God, and continues to pray, and include Him in every thing we do...... I don't think that's selfish. Too NOT include Him in all we do,,,, IS....
He is so powerful, and so wonderful, and so good to His flock, that well,,,,, here's my question??? Why not give Him all the praise and glory ?? Like the Bible teaches us to do??? Why not????? Why not keep His commandments???
Its so not selfish, or anything.

Heaven isn't the goal. It's just an extra gift. But the real reason I praise is because I love God, and God won't let me quit. I've tried to quit, but God just reminds me what the term "dead life of sin" means. It means living for pride and living the dull life that everyone in society claims is "the way." My dream job is a street preacher!!!

Praising God to get to heaven IS selfish (and it isn't likely to work). On the other hand, if you accept that God has already given you an invitation to heaven, praising him becomes an expression of gratitude for that invitation. Kind of the same way it works in other situations.
If I praise my boss in order to get a raise or promotion, I'm a brown-noser...but if I send my boss a thank you note for recommending me for a raise or promotion, I'm just expressing my gratitude for his support. If I suck up to someone because I want him or her to do something for me, that's selfish...if a person does something to nice for me, it is actually quite selfish to ignore his or her gesture.

So it's "selfish" to want to go to heaven, and avoid eternal hell?
Is it also "selfish" that you got up this morning. had something to eat, and took care of your personal needs? If you're a Christian then you wouldn't think it's "selfish" to be saved.
Anyway "praising God" doesn't save you, and I don't know if a true Christian would ever say that. We can only be saved by believing that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins and rose again.

Well, I think that was the point of Jesus' parable about the women in the field, one will be taken and one will be left behind. Two people can be doing the same thing with different motives and one will be right with God and one is doing the same good thing out of selfish motives. But no one can fool God.

I agree with CJ. I also want to say that I am not praising God to get to heaven. My relationship with Jesus will get me to heaven. I am praising God because He is worthy of praise. He is the Creator. He is my Father. He is everything. He gave His Son to die for me because He loved me (and you) so much.
God bless.

I think you are confusing selfishness with gratitude. We are commanded to be thankful in everything. God has done a wonderful thing for this world and I will forever thank Him for doing so.

It isn't selfish...we will all get there sooner or later !
Christianity is simply "hoping" to gain some favor...by worshiping, but god isn't a slime-ball...he will not let you in heaven if you worship him,yet do sins to other men !

We don't praise God in oreder to get to heaven...we get to heaven by repenting of sin ( being born again) and by recognizing Jesus is the sacrifice for our sin.
Praise is the RESULT of being born again of God's Holy Spirit.
"But as many as received him (Jesus), TO THEM he gave the power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe in his name, which were born.... not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but were born of God"- (John 1:12)
