if you have LAN card on both, get a crossover RJ-45 cable. not the regular one. Plug in both. If both PC's are in a network, no need for the above step.

You can do it with either an ethernet cable, a parallel cable or a serial cable, depending on whether you're sending files through the ethernet port, the parallel port or the serial port.

Ethernet is the one most people use as it's by far the fastest. More specifically you'll need an "ethernet cross-over cable". If your machines are both fairly new (only a few years old, say) then you can also use a regular ethernet cable i.e. not cross-over.

I'm guessing you are talking about an ethernet crossover cable, but many other kinds of cable are used.

has to be a "crossover" or "null modem" cable for direct connect PC to PC.

If u can do it via a network, that is preferable.
