Make sure port is forwarded in router correctly (read guides unded SPEED TEST)
Make sure SCHEDULER os OFF or set ro FULL SPEED
Do NOT limit upload speed below 25% of required DL speed.
Use "private" or "membership" torrent sites for better speeds (often)

But remember ONLY download files it is legal to do so. Downloading films etc is illegal and hence cannot be condoned here . . . OFFICIAL WARNING OVER

When I first used Utorrent it was the port forward and the upload limiet and scheduler caused my initial headaches

You can't. It all depends on how many other people are sharing the file at the time, or in better words, "seeding".

By the way, if you have comcast, it has recently been known that they are throttling speeds for all torrents. In easier terms, that means that they limit your download/upload speeds if they see your using bit torrent.

If have a port forwarded correctly (UTorrent will show you a "green light" at the bottom of the window) your speeds are dictated by your connection and the availablity of what you are legally downloading.

If you do not have a port forwarded the easiest thing to do is go to www.portforward.com. They have great instructions tailored to your specific router model. It is a multi-step process, but only takes about 10 minutes to do and will increase your speeds drastically.

There is no real way.

Your speed is determined by the seeders of the torrent.

Mostly, mosre seeders, faster DL speed.

However, this might not be the case. They might turn down their seed speed.
