Just because you like putting something daft out there sometimes does not mean you are not serious and really down at other times. Do you not know of any mood disorders or are you one of the lucky people who does not have them.

I didn't see that you answered that repeat question repeat before I typed my reply on this question. So I didn't know you had a mood disorder at all. Well if you are bipolar you know full well that a persons mood can change then so don't accuse me of being a troll because of previous silly questions.

Oh and I have tried it sonny boy and I found it impossible because I couldn't swallow. I wanted to find out how to become unconscious quickly.

Ok - It was a stupid place to ask a question and expect a matter of fact answer, without the get help people.
I'm glad that you were found without any problems occuring from it.

Whats frustrating "i'm from Wales" is that there are new treatments out there that I read about on the net. There are operations which cure depression through implants that give off electrical pulses (DBS, VNS), a thing called tranmagnetic cranial stimulation, different types of antidepressants to the ssri's (which have been useless for me) like stablon and Emsam, and yet either you can't get hold of them in the UK or the NHS doesn't offer them. Are you on lithium for your bipolar? Does it not work for you? I would email you but you don't have an address.

You have certainly made me think twice about it. I fantasize about it most days and in my fantasies I quickly go unconscious and just die without feeling pain.

It is not impossible to hang yourself as many people have succeeded. It is seen as a methods used by those truly wishing to die. You would have no concern for the amount of pain involved, which is considerable. Your need to die would be your main concern. It is an agonizing method. You can not breath and the swallowing thing would not be a concern as your body would be more concerned with getting air than swallowing. Anyone who had tried it would know! In the psychiatric world they classed such methods as violent methods and they are the most successful as they are quicker and more likely to end in success. Jumping and throwing yourself in front of train etc is also classed as a violent method of suicide!

Edit

NHS is crap. Where I live we have the worst psychiartist immaginable. In fact I'm currently taking legal action against him. I was wrongly diagnosed and treated. I was made worst - he gave me anti depressants and then nothing as he refused to believ there was anything wrong with me .Then he refused me a second opion and three months later, without being treated, I hung self.

I eventually had second opinon and he wrong but he removed the report and just went back to his previous methods - which made me worst. I went high after he represcribe anti depressants. It was a nightmare.

I was eventually, after four years, given new pstchiatrist that dumped me after the two medications he precsribed were problemmatic, like as if that was my fault!

I personally would not try surgery, but I am waiting to see another psychiartist. I have not been on lithium I have been on Olanzapine and Depokote, but I had problems with them. I still can't get proper help.

I know it's alright for me to say but please dont try to hang yourself. It real is terrible. I don't know what to suggest as I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Shame we don't live near each other as we could campain to get proper help together. Good luck and I mean that most sincerely. And sorry about calling you a troll. I am a tab bit sensative about mental health!

I'm glad you are thinking twice about hanging your self. I hope you the help you desrve so that it never even crosses your mind, even in passing!

Third edit

Have you tried taking legal advice as to whether you should be given those medications that you feel may help but are not available on NHS. If they tried all the usuall methods I think that they may have to try those other treatments, I could be wrong, but it's worth asking.

I don't know if you know, but Mind have a legal line. It has a mental health solicitor on it. Sometimes you get a dud one but you can always phone on a different day and try again as they are not the same ones, they alternate.

The number is:0845 766 01 63. Ask for the legal line when they answer. The legal line is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 2 - 4.30.
It's free advice you just pay for the call which is local rate. You do usuall have to wait in a cue. Usually for about thirty minutes.

Well at first I thought you might actually be trying to kill yourself, but I think you are just curious.

Anybody who wants to kill themselves can find much better ways than a bedsheet.

But anyways, the way a hanging works is that a person is dropped suddenly and in the old days theyd tie weights to their legs to hopefully make their necks snap and their death instant.

Nowadays people who hang themselves suffer slow strangulation which must be extremely painful and must take a long time.

The natural reaction of the body is to live. That's why people will struggle and struggle, realizing they made a stupid decision and wanting to take it back, most are able to struggle free.

If not, the person dies very slowly and extremely painfully.

With great difficulty & alot of pain & possible regret @ the last moment.....its a slow way to die unless the person is lucky & breaks there neck then its quick but either way I wouldnt try it...........I can imagine in a few months someone posting a message to say "how do you get knots out of bed sheets"
Alot of ppl who try to kill themselves fail & end up far worse than before posssibly with serious brain damage :-)

Don't know the exact statistics.

People who commit suicide by hanging themselves die very agonizingly and slowly over an span from 8 to 15 minutes where they may be consciously aware of what they have done to themselves.

They rip the bedsheet into strips and use it as a rope.
