My dad has blood clot in his lung before, so they put a filter in to avoid the blood clot go into his upper body, but in these couple days, the blood clot build up in his leg, and it stuck below the filter, they said they can only use a small amount of blood thinner to avoid the new blood clot build up, because if they use a large amount of blood thinner, that will cause the bleeding in his brain, also even they use a small amount of blood thinner, there is a risk to cause the bleeding in his head.
So is there any way to deal with the blood clot without blood thinner? It's a urgent question, because my dad's leg is swallow like a elephant leg.

I wonder why they haven't suggested going in with a catheter to remove the blood clot? They can do this unless he has some other medical conditions I'm unaware of If you're not satisfied with one doctors opinion by all means get a second or third untill you have all the facts. There is almost always alternatives to problems and Dr.s are only human and don't always know the best answers and some will know things another may not good luck

I am assuming there is another reason that your dad can't use blood thinners. They don't just not give them to people unless there is a valid reason. If you are unsure of the treatment they are prescribing to him, seek a second opionion, not all docs treat the same way. The only way to "destroy" a clot is a thrombolytic, which wouldn't be indicated, they do use the greenfield filters to catch existing clots before traveling to the lungs.

If you and your father are not happy with the diagnosis and treatment plan his Dr has suggested, then get a second opinion!

This sounds like a serious problem that is far beyond the scope of anyone without knowledge of his full medical background to answer.

You are not really providing enough information and this is beyond the scope of Yahoo Answers. If your father is not in the hospital right now than he should be taken immediately to the Emergency room. He needs to be examined by his doctor so they can determine treatment. No one here can answer a question like this.

Best wishes.

He's going to need surgery on those blood clots unfortunately. He needs to see a thrombosis/anticoagulation Dr. ASAP. This is a deadly situation. GO TO THE ER NOW!!!!!!!
